Hey, thanks for the heads-up on that sale! Lots of great stuff available there.
With all the "hoopla" surrounding the Beatles' Remasters, the BB store where I work has opened their merchandising suggestion box to all interested staff. For a while they have had some Martin Logan Electrostatic hybrid (they use woofers) speakers set up in the "high dollar area." Not long ago I set up a turntable and Denon receiver - not too bad, really. (Basically, it is some of the "best" stuff you can buy at any BB store) It does a half decent job of showing off vinyl with some recordings and it is our way of capitalizing upon the recent resurgence of interest in vinyl.
Sunday, one of the youngsters brought in a "Sgt. Peppers" album that he found in his dad's closet.
I immediately had a good look at it. I am not that much of an LP collector or anything, but I was around and sort of aware while these albums were being produced. I immediately recognized an early release! I also saw these albums re-released, re-pressed - ad nauseum - to keep up with the demand. His dad's album, which this kid brought in and just left lying around, was a Black Rainbow Capitol, in excellent condition, from the third run, off the second master, as far as I can remember from my own research over at Hoffmann's site, trying to identify my own couple-of-dozen early "Pepper's" treasures.
I told him not to leave it here at the store, unprotected. It was probably too valuable to play in this environment, anyway, I tried to warn him. Sure enough, today (the FOLLOWING DAY, FFS!!), someone stole it! Some days, it is very difficult to not hate people!
Enough with the depressing asides, for now! Back to "What's Spinning."
I have been enjoying a few vocal things, lately, as well. Not normally what I reach for, but with some influence from my wife and her taste (we're able to spend more time together, lately - this is good!), I have recently spun up some Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Eddie Arnold, C,S,N&Y, Mandisa, etc - that is to say, a widely mixed bag of vocal artists, well outside my normal range.
She does not get jazz and becomes quite stressed if I (or my son, for that matter) push too much on her, but I have managed to give her quite a bit of enjoyment from my simple system, by allowing her taste in music to prevail a bit. I have also developed a great deal more appreciation for the recordings that made these vocalists so popular.
I feel like that I should hide for going so long and just NOW discovering the value this type of expression for myself.
