... actually, it's been spinning off and on for over a month. I got a radio copy, early on. Unfortunately, the radio collective does not seem to have any interest.
I hope it goes GOLD. LoL!

Chickenfoot is Joe Satriani (we've known him for many years, extreme shredder and guitar virtuoso, noted as influencial to dozens of other sub-masters of the guitar), Sammy Hagar (Montrose, Van Halen, solo fame), Chad Smith (drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers), and Michael Anthony (the awesome bass for Van Halen and "the other backing vocal"  when Sam came to VH).

They are on The Tonnight Show, with Conan O'brien, tonight. (RECORD IT!!)

I feel a little weird to see old time, (I've reached my twenty year anniversary, from leaving music the first time) "associates"  doing so well without me, but I only wish them well.

(actually, I have not ever had the chance to work with Chad Smith (my extreme loss, for sure), but from what I've seen, he is welcome at my fire.)


Anyway, the official release was today. Don't even try to listen to this exclusive music, unless you like old fashioned, overly electric melodies and riffs that affect your meals, screaming frontman with absolutely nothing to say, inescapable drumming that you can't possibly do and rhythmic bass lines which compete with the melodies, forcing you to bang your head,  "dated" style R&R.


I'm talking about a small group of (to some small minds, washed up old has-been, shudda retired when I did) rockers who have absolutely NO reason to still work, except that they still do this 5H1T for the sheer joy of it. These guys are having a ball!

I don't often miss this life, with the kids and all, but now my old, long teeth have begun to spring forth with new growth.

I'm in one of those modes where I obsess on a single artist.

I am sure the modus will pass, again.

I'm listening to the Bill Evans Trio box set, "Turn out the Stars," formerly on Warner Bros. then out of print, now brought back on Nonesuch.

Six wonderful cds of great live piano trio music!  This is one of the last recordings Bill Evans made, and this final trio he had made fantastic music, he really went out on a high note.

Best Buy online has this mispriced for 13.99. Six cds, list price 50 bucks, they're selling it for 13.99.  So I ordered two sets and got them yesterday, going to use them as gifts (I have the earlier Warner Bros. version of the box set.)  Going to be fun to give them out to my dad and my brother.

I spoiled myself because I think this album is one of the very important ones in my soul development.  MOFI SACD and boy does it sound awesome.

Ah Kind of Blue.

The Miles that did it for me was Filles de Kilamanjaro.  I had come back from Africa at 17 in 1971 and nothing I heard on the radio seemed to speak to me directly.  There was a sort of cultural divide that five years in Africa gave me.  But I found that record in the library, and then Bitches Brew and I HEARD those and FELT them. And years later I followed Miles back to the fifties and followed people Miles spoke highly of like Pops and Duke and Bird and also followed Miles sidemen like Trane and Mobley and Wynton Kelly and Bill Evans (got trapped in Bill Evans for a long time, and still do!)

Yes Mike.  I actually even had an advance copy from Bob Belden himself who I occasionally correspond with. I like it a lot.  Great stuff!

I have gone back through most of my early LPs in an effort to find differences that are not a/d related.

There are many.

I'm spinning Dark Magus, right now and the Jack Johnson sessions in the line-up.


Probably something spacy after that bit.

I have bought so much new stuff lately, it is hurting to sort it all out.

Cool, I'm glad you enjoy her!  I've been going back to the first one and the most recent one lately.

Right now the new Grateful Dead archive release from Rhino, a compilation of two 1974 shows. Great sound from the 'wall of sound'.

yesterday i spun a little vinyl.
started with the new dirty projectors album, then gave an old pressing of the whims of chambers a spin, then pulled out brazilia by coltrane...then i had to go run errands.

One of the most beautiful recordings I own.

I'm going to keep on buying cds. . . and if they stop making them. . .well. . . I have plenty!

I would love to see Blu-Ray audio.  I spent ridiculous money on the Neil Young one and am loving exploring it.  The music sounds fantastic, better than any other digital version.

I'm listening to one of a batch of 22 classical SACDs I got in the mail from a big sale at Concord Records. . . . Really fleshing out my classical collection with great sounding discs. At less than five dollars each all in.
