Not perfect recordings (the following two discs are better) but of the content in all four discs I have never heard better mastering. And the music. . . so interesting. The Quintet being controversial and knowing it.

Hello, Lon "Out West" is a new one for me - very nice (based on a listen on youtube)! Herbie Hancock is a standout on piano, which reminds me of Grant Green's 1962 album "Feelin' the Spirit" that also includes the same pianist (Herbie Hancock) and drummer (Billy Higgens):

It also feels like some of these songs have a tinge of latin music, which reminds me of Grant Green's "The Latin Bit" (also from 1962):

I especially like "Besame Mucho," on the Latin Bit, but lots of good stuff here. Grant Green even quotes one of these songs (maybe "Tico Tico") on "Red River Valley" on "Goin' West!"

Picture of Heath…..currently streaming in Roon. While I have this on vinyl, I am testing out some new tube combo’s in the Zen’s, so I like to reference music I know to a tea on the fly. I’ll switch over to vinyl after dinner.

The stock ZROCK2 tube is replaced with the Amperex Holland Pinched Waist 7062 tube, and CSP2+ has a 6N5P as the input stage, and a matched pair of 6N1P-EV in the rear. The rectifier I swapped out a 5AR4to the Decware 5U4G. I’ve been battling strange hum that comes and goes…so I’m trying to isolate it. I may throw up a post if I can’t narrow it down.

Duke Ellington's Spacemen "The Cosmic Scene" HDTT cdr

What great instrumentaion and a great blend of jazz elements including a Chicago Style feel at points (to my ears). This transfer from a Columbia reel-to-reel is very nice. I also have an OG mono LP of this, and the stereo cd from Mosaic. Nice to rotate the three in listening when I do play this.

There’s a lot to be said for physical media. I had internet issues last week, and thankfully I had my vinyl and CD library as a backup. If I only streamed, I would have been miserable.

Currently trying this one out from Stan Getz. It’s a bit different than his usual repertoire, but very good in its own right. It’s slower, more mellow, but very clean and highlights his talent as a sax player.

The other Lon…Love Supreme is a good one for sure. I haven’t listened to that Ron Carter album in a long time. Need to revisit that one…it’s enjoyable.

Another Mark Masters Ensemble disc that I pulled from the shelves, "Blue Skylight" which interprets the work of both Charles Mingus and Gerry Mulligan, alternating a composition by each on the disc. A great listen!

John Coltrane "Crescent" Impulse! – IMP-200 1997 limited edition reissue

Been futzing with my Vinyl and moved it from running into the DSD DAC via HDMI to balanced analog out from the phono preamp into the ZBIT and into the SEWE300B. (All Decware components except the PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter). Sounds very similar actually, but this removes the ZROCK2 from the chain and it could use a bit of its help, or more than a bit. I have a ZROCK3 on order that will give me an extra ZROCK. . . I'm about #58 on the "accelerated list."

I spent some time over this weekend to reconfigure my LP playback. Rather than sending the output from my phono preamp in DSD format to my DAC, I am using the balanced analog output of the phono preamp into a ZBIT and from there single-eneded out to the second input of the SEWE300B. This means I no longer have remote volume or balance control, nor does the path go through a ZROCK2 into the SEWE300B.

Overall really good sound--just lacking a little bit of "oomph" to lower midrange and bass that a ZROCK2 would provide. (I have a ZROCK3 on order to remedy this situation).

Listened to one of my favorite LPs bought in the mid-seventies, Flora Purim "500 Miles High--Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival." Wow. I love this music, this recording, and the history I have with it.

Now listening to Bob Dylan Bootleg Series Vol. 10, "Another Self Portrait" LP 1. Sounds quite good. . . just wish it has a bit more bass.

I have them in my Zen’s, and like the sound after they are broken in. Currently streaming McCartney and the Wings “Band On the Run”. One of my wife favorites albums.

So I bought a compilation of Miles Davis recordings, to broaden my jazz listening - Miles Davis, "Four Classic Albums:"

I particularly wanted to hear "Ascenseur Pour Lechaufaud," which is a film soundtrack from 1957 (I have seen it on Turner Classic Movies channel and liked the music). The last thing I listened to from the four albums was the song "Solea" on the album "Sketches of Spain." For some reason, after listening to this, I kept thinking about Clint Eastwood(!) I finally broke down and searched the internet, and came up with "The Gauntlet" from 1977, with a soundtrack by Jerry Fielding (I don't have it, but the cover is shown below):

The song "The Gauntlet" (listened on YouTube) seems to have significant similarity to Miles Davis' "Solea." That similarity must have triggered my memory!
