I'm going through this composite Sarah Vaughn collection. But that's only the start.
I know a Ken Burns selection is not the way to go with the best of this music, but finding them at a "fire sale" I grabbed up all twelve for a buck a pop.
I've gone shopping, but not for anyone else but me. There's an old record store about to be destroyed half way to downtown Indy. I've been there many times over the years.
I always buy several things, but today, knowing what has happened to the community, I stopped in to see if anything was left I might want. It's a decent long drive and I went there today on purpose after some local news about the upcoming Indy city project.
My GOD! It was a treasure trove! And priced to go right now!
There was a Columbia Jazz collection for $30 and it seems to be complete (all 25 discs) and so much more. Collections were a bit more than a buck a pop. I'll tag it below, too.
I dropped over $600 bucks and increased the "interesting" level of my collection by a large margin. (EDIT: I just pulled out my receipt - I spent $678, including tax)
I came home with 350 something CDs by counting the collections and stacks of CDs and over two hundred LPs priced at a buck or two a pop. I was there for a long time, most of the afternoon.
I hate to see the store go, but the city is taking the land. (Kind of like what happened to our old house)
They've already torn down the beautiful old high school, just down the street which was built strong in the '30s, but no air conditioning, so bye bye!
So many small shops all on the chopping block. It is a part of the art community in the area and Covid did away with most of the small "artisan shops" and businesses in the area, but even the last of the hold outs can no longer stay.
I just hope that the tiny pittance I was able to drop for the owners helps a little. I will enjoy my bounty, but it is sad to see them go. I would love to be able to go back and spend a few grand. There are so many more desirable items there!
... and it's probably all going to an auction, soon.
