I watched part of the DVD until Lucy came home early and interrupted me. I'm listening again to the cd that is in this package, a live appearance at the Penthouse in Seattle. It's excellent!

Bass – Eddie Gomez

Vibraphone – Gary McFarland
CD recorded June 24 & July 1, 1965, at The Penthouse, Seattle, WA.

This was priced very nicely via discogs. There's an LP that contains some of the Penthouse material but the cd here has a more complete presentation.

I like this CD because some songs are taken from the LP and others from a CD masters, so you get to hear the quality difference in the recordings. So far…the LP tracks are the favorites. Currently streaming in Roon.

This was still in the player from yesterday afternoon and it sounds so good that I started my day off with it today.

It has been some time since I reached into Billie's Verve years. . .and I'm always intrigued by the sidemen's contributions and that mature expression Billie delivers.

It took some prodding but my JATP Mosaic set arrived last night right after my wife came home and I shut off the system.

Playing the first disc right now. Sound is really good. No loudness war mastering here--I had to increase the gain in my system a lot. Lester is playing and all is right in my world.

Just what I needed after some JATP jams!

Quartet sessions with either Red or Shirley on piano, from two LPs and one track from a compilation.

Pulled a few Lockjaw cds from the shelves. . .he has a unique sound and technique that I sometimes crave in batches of discs.

Ella Fitzgerald "Sunshine of Your Love" Verve cd

Although this whole disc shows Ella really "on" and sounding great. . . the title track is the show stopper!

Sound isn't fantastic. This originated as an MPS and there are MPS cds out there. . . but they don't always sound that good so I went with the Verve. May try the MPS one day.

Lon, I totally agree with that last point! In fact, I only know what I know about Montrose because of your posting.

I also want to commend you for the extra effort you have put forth to help some of us "unwashed" find some of this incredible music in the real world market place.

I know you are doing some of this further effort at my previous request.

I also want to offer an apology for the affect that my earlier request to you had reminding you of what a dark place you have found yourself living through.

I got this, yesterday. It's short and his singing is flatter than usual, but the guitar work, with Jimi just trying out stuff to see if he can use it, is worth all that.
I would not call it a great album, because frankly it is not, but it is a part of the lesson and another peak at history.
I am not a "Completist" by any mean, but I do enjoy much of this release.

No need to apologize, I was just reacting to something that seemed unnecessary to me because I'm not posting to recommend to others etc. And I was unconvinced that my choices and taste were mirrored by many at all here. I post these listening pieces here because for me it's all about music, not just the equipment which I tinker with because it gets me closer to the music, and not just great music that shows off how great the components are, but all kinds of recordings.

And I have not been 100 percent and won't be for a while, but that's just my issue, shouldn't be influencing my responses here or aired here.

Yeah, that Hendrix concert was one of the better ones captured by the company and one of the better ones performed that year. I have probably 100 plus Jimi bootlegs, I'm most interested in his studio work to be honest and hope they put out the Electric Ladyland studio box set they almost did last year. We'll see. Jimi was a real inspiration for me, he drew me into actively listening in a way that I never had before. I can still remember when "All Along the Watchtower" came out as a single and I was listening to it anywhere and everywhere I could.

It's amazing what a tube in the ZROCK2 can do. I have a "Sunbeam" branded made in Holland 12AU7 in there now that is just perfect for what I have been playing today when the gain structure is dialed in. It's like a comforting mug of dark hot chocolate.
