I found another box of Big Band albums in the stack of stuff, heavy with Ellington.

One small collection was Les Brown and Doris Day. I have seldom listened to Doris Day, but with this band, with this set up, this shit rocks!!
After the TV show, I kind of just boxed her in one small place and left her there.
I was wrong! She has some chops!

All Red Columbia labels from the '40s and sounding good.

Duke Ellington "Complete 1947-1952" CBS France 6 LP box set

I noticed Dusty Groove had this French box set for 27 dollars and even though I have had this box set about seven years on LP and over 20 years on cd, I just had to order it.

Turns out it is completely brand new, unplayed. Which is much better condition than the LP set I've enjoyed for so long. So I can certainly keep this one!

Listening to LP 3 right now. GREAT music in this set.

Stll going through this box of Big Band from the stack of stuff.

More than half of it is Duke Ellington, of course.

By "going through" I mean I am playing or at least previewing every single album. That's why I said this would take months, but as reality sets in, more like a year or more at my current rate of reflection.

Nothing new here, just an incredible collection of older LPs with Duke on the outside mostly.

I'm having a blast, still.

Great morning listening. The Dusty Groove description:

Great recordings from Swedish pianist Bengt Hallberg -- recorded at a key point in the 50s when he was really building a reputation in the overseas market! The sides here were recorded for Metronome and Pacific Jazz -- and feature Hallberg's sharp-edged piano working with a great range of Swedish reedmen -- not just baritonist Lars Gulling, as mentioned in the title -- but also Arne Domnerus on alto and clarinet, Carl-Henrik Norin on tenor, and Putte Wickman on clarinet -- plus added brass from the trumpet of Ernie Englund and trombone of Ake Persson. Moods are modern throughout -- and kind of a blend of Swedish postwar with west coast cool -- an aspect that made Hallberg ripe for exposure to the US market at the time. Titles include "Pink Lady", "Side Car", "Whiskey Sour", "Red Wails In The Sunset", "Blues In Fourths", and "Meatballs" -- and some tracks are presented in multiple takes!

SO, I flip over from the LPs for a while and maybe the tenth disc set I pick up in the collection box of what I intend to play next, is more Big Band.

Turns out, it's a DVD.
But great music and I would not say relaxing, but settling some. This music has tremendous movement and it's stirring. And yet easy to just lay back, engulf and fade the day away.
I generally bow out early on many vocal attempts; not this one.

I have not put a screen up in my room, so if I want to "watch" it, that will be my movie rig, which would not do the music justice.

I'll probably do that when I share this with my son, who does not yet care about sound quality (yet?).
He loves much of the music I treasure.

I have brainwashed him since infancy.

My buddy chose these banker boxes that are legal size and they fit a lot more LPs than I thought at first glance, I have not counted except for grabbing a ten or twelve album handful and then estimating how many handfuls were in each of the many boxes, then counting the boxes.
Basically two car loads of boxes.

Now, not all boxes are stuffed full, but many are about as full as is comfortable. Quite heavy to lift and store properly. I have to renew my plan for storage.
I started a thread looking for suggestions for storage, but that was before I had almost doubled my collection. I still have many more CDs to figure out.

One of the archival instincts my buddy was working toward was removing CDs from the jewel cases and using these (expensive) fancy three ring binder pages designed with a stiff inner, with several pockets for the CDs and all the graphics and booklets for each release. He was not yet done and when I first grabbed all the CDs without looking at them, it was a box of jewel cases. Without those annoying plastic cases, the CDs can be stored in about a fourth the space.
So the many boxes already with the cases removed have many more CDS than I had first thought.

This is a fabulous First World problem to work through!

Still it comes out at about 900 to 1000 LPs to peruse and maybe 3k CDs. I am still beside myself at this bounty of music basically for a couple of days work clearing out their house and then free to haul away.

For today, I have found a "complete" collection of Montrose (rock band), even includes two live albums from Germany I have never seen and Discogs or the Montrose website do not list, either. Obvious boots. Lucky to have them, since they are pretty damn good recordings.

Anyway, I'm going to go through this stack of Montrose albums. Ronnie had some great chops and Sammy was young here and full of himself!

Hot off the press on vinyl Tone Poet Series. I listen to this album often and know it well. This is the first vinyl listening session with the new CSP2+ 25th. The detail is excellent with the background instruments and the recording is quiet.

HK mentioned that 25th Anniversary mods in the CSP’s are special, and he’s not kidding. When I push the voltage past 15v which was where my ZSTAGE maxed out…there is no break up. Joe Pass’s guitar has passion and the the analog sound is so natural and real.

Straight from the Sound of Vinyl…Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers “Budhainas Delight” Blue Note series. All of these albums were free on a big promotion; I only had to pay for shipping and cost me $8.53 a piece. Enjoying this album as well. Nice layering and the individual instruments are discernible with no smear. This album is also quiet.

Another free record from the Sound Of Vinyl. U2’s “Actung Baby”.

Ok…this one I may use as a frisbee for my dog. The vinyl is badly warped and the pressing is not good. It’s sound is anemic, muffled, and all over the place. For the first time ever the ZROCK2 was better before unity gain and/or bypassed. This one is painful to listen to….ouch!! I need to stream this album in Qobuz to hear what this is supposed to sound like.

In case there is another person besides myself, who didn't know, I found the following description of "Death Boxes." Still, I may have it wrong...

"In the world of car audio, a Death Box is a type of subwoofer enclosure designed to produce extremely high bass levels. The name "Death Box" comes from the fact that these enclosures can be very powerful and can easily damage subwoofers if they are not properly matched.

Death Boxes are typically made from thick plywood or MDF and are designed to be very rigid. They often have a ported design, which means that they have a small opening in the back that allows air to flow through the enclosure. This helps to improve the bass response of the subwoofer."
