Earl Hines & Jimmy Rushing "Blues & Things" Master Jazz/New World cd

WOW. I forgot how great this disc is. Five masters who know what to do, and boy do they get it done. And the producer and engineer are right there with them, capturing all the nuances and presenting them to you gently, as if you were sitting fifteen feet away in awe.

Such a relaxed swing and careful yet happy delivery.

I'd have to dig out my copy of this (it's a Japanese cd with a different cover) and see but as Mino Cinelu is the percussionist on this album it could be almost any hand drum, but it could be a tympani. Could more likely be a tabla drum.

Geno, As far as recording quality I think these two on Master Jazz vinyl and New World cd are excellent: "Blues & Things" with Earl Hines, and "Who was it Sang that Song."

I actually think his early work with Count Basie especially for Decca Records is the fantastic best Rushing! Not going to have the best sound, but his voice and his suppleness to the beat. . . wow.
