Lon, thanks for cluing me in on the new Art Pepper release. I'm listening to some now. Since I have all the LPs and likely lots of the bonus material on the Complete Galaxy Recordings (16 CDs), I went to track 34...34 to 50 are all bonus material. I'm pretty sure some I haven't heard. Love me some Pepper. No doubt I'll pick this up sometime but in the meantime, the music coming outta spotify is glorious. I thank Laurie, Art's last wife for all she's done. She likely is the reason Art was able to have his comeback from the late 70's until his death in the summer of 1982. She has kept Art's music coming with her efforts to release both live and studio recordings through the years. Her devotion is inspiring.

PS...I thought you didn't care for Art Pepper, Lon. What made you buy this set? As you know I'm an Art Pepper fanatic

I actually didn't buy this set, it was a gift from a jazz fan I did some helpful work for. It's not that I don't like Art Pepper, I've just not been crazy about him in the past. I still like his earliest work the best, his later heavily Coltrane influenced work I like less. But I'm liking it a bit more lately. The mastering on this set is very good, better than the Complete Galaxy set, and only 26 of the tracks I think were on that set.

You'll enjoy it, it's very well-mastered and presented. And not expensive.

A wonderful trio of albums to listen to back to back to back.

Stan Getz "Sweet Rain" Verve Original cd. This was a perfect trio to support Stan moving a step forward.

Horace Silver "Further Explorations of the Horace Silver Quintet" Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG LP facsimile cd. I'm beginning to think that Horace may have been positioning himself as the "Dave Brubeck of Hardbop." "Exploring" and visiting Tokyo, the Cape Verdean Islands, Mexico . . . . Man the trio sections of this date are really something, and those who dis Rudy's piano sound . . . well I like it on this record for sure.

Nancy Harms, "Ellington at Night" (sorry couldn't find a smaller photo).

I like this one much more than I thought I might. Could do without the strings which I don't think add what the artist and producer thought they might, but a nice batch of interpretations. In a way Harms makes me think of a Rickie Lee Jones that decided not to be a songwriter but to seriously interpret jazz. Very good recording.

Had some all over the map listening today.

Started with Miles Davis, "Pangaea," the Japanese LP facsimile 20 bit remaster from '96.

Then moved to Bob Dylan, "Blood on the Tracks," Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD.

Followed by Wes Montgomery. "Full House" on DCC gold cd, sure haven't heard that in a long time.

Moved to Stan Getz, "Getz a Go Go," Verve Original cd.

And finished up with a new arrival from today's mail delivery, "J.R. Monterose," Blue Note Japan "24 bit by RVG" cd.

Recorded at the old (former) Train Station at Rolandseck in Remagen, Germany, September 25th, 1965.
In 1964 the Train Station became a working place for artists of all kinds - among them Marcel Marceau.
600 guests were invited to Marcel Marceau´s party near old river Rhine.
