Lii Audio W-15 Plus baffle update
07/24/21 at 17:51:02

Until now, I have been building the baffles for the Lii Audio W-15 bass driver in two versions ..... the original version which is 7/8" thick and the "Plus" version which is 1 1/2" thick.

Because of the weight of the driver, I was configuring both for front driver mounting.

However, the more I looked at the Plus baffles I was building for the other Lii Audio drivers, the more I was tempted to make a pair configured for rear mounted drivers with a roundover on the front of the baffle.

When an order came in for a pair of Red oak / Sapele Betsy Plus baffles and a matching (but reversed hardwood) W-15 Plus baffle, it seemed like the time to see how this would work.

If it didn't, I would have some very nice wood for the fireplace this winter .....

Here are the results .....

I purchased some 1 1/2" long truss head wood screws and they are keeping the driver on the W-15 baffle firmly anchored .....

Larger photos here, here, here, here and here.

Happy listening,
Randy

Very nice, Randy!

I really don’t think that the title “Hillbilly Wood Butcher” can be used any longer.

I think that you have moved to the next level - “Beverly Hillbilly Wood Worker” Cheesy

No really, it has been a cool journey watching how the open baffles have evolved and improved over the last few years.

Congratulations and very best,

Geno

Hi Geno,

Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement .....

Every new baffle (or pair of baffles) that I build now is a true labor of love.
The positive feedback I am receiving from customers is very gratifying.
Shipping on new orders is now at four to six weeks, because I refuse to rush through a project.

I am almost caught up on current orders and have plans to work with some new hardwood varieties as time allows.

Now, if the grass would just stop growing .....

Best wishes and happy listening,
Randy

Those look great Randy. And I like how you were able match the grain on the right and left sides of both Betsy panels. .

Nicely done!

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much .....

I try to do this with all of the speakers I build ..... but sometimes the lumber does not cooperate .....

Best wishes,
Randy
