I love that "Surrealistic Pillow" cover, showing instruments they never play.

Oddly, I was playing Victor Wooten earlier and he almost always leads me to Bela Flek. Here's a pic of Wooten with Bela And The Flektones. That bass banjo is real, btw. (VERY difficult to mic up!)

I'm playing the "Africa Sessions," both.
This is loaded with very difficult musical passages to reproduce with lots of percussive instruments.
I'm still working on settling in my newish Lii Audio W15s in the H Frame enclosure, but pushing a little past my most familiar music.

The combo matches great at times, but at other times or with different music, I am still inclined to turn the subwoofer off. I have something still a little itchy to scratch out in the set up.

Here's another fun pic with a banjo in it from Bela and the boys. Notice Roy Wooten with his banjo electric drum kit.

Many years ago, Lon you clued us all about a closeout sale at Concord. That Cal Tjader was not on clearance, so I paid full price for that one, but I got lots of other bargains during that sale.

Today it's something off my usual path, but a decent listen. I don't listen to much freeform, but this is loaded with interest, right now.
I got this from the record store I used to haunt which was closing last summer. I had not opened it until this morning.

I remember that sale. Most of those I bought then are in storage now.. .and I'm "supposed" to start getting rid of all those. We'll see. There were lots of great titles I haven't looked at in years in that sale.

Going for some older Miles Davis for now. Stolen pic from Discogs and it shows an LP, but I have the 20 year old remake CD version. I also have a CD of "Young Man With A Horn" No Volume number, being the early one, but Vol. II is my favorite.

I get more out of those two volumes of Miles on Blue Note each time I play them--I didn't listen to them a lot at first, preferring the Prestige sides that I dug more early on, but there's interesting music there. Though his life was a little more messed up then with heroin and supposed pimping. He got that together and went on to really shine and make a career.

Yes, I am supposed to be getting rid of cds. In fact Wednesday I mailed a package of cds off to Tony, so there. . . I did do SOMETHING!

A quick dabble with my Tidal link, I want that!

For now it is back to the stack and an afternoon of Lionel Hampton LPs. Some of which I have never seen before.

Hampton has never been a favorite due to some of his exploration, but the "bones" are always an intrigue for me.

... and I still listen to him explore his gift. I often enjoy what he has found.

Contradictory as always. Did I tell you I am a Libra; nothing but the contradictions ever reaches air.

Lee Wiley "Manhattan Nights--The Complete Golden Years Studio Sessions" disc 1 of 4.

There are better sounding versions of most of the material in this set on cd, but this was where I first encountered these sides and they are quite listenable for the most part. And her singing! She as unique.

I bought it, unheard, because I liked the title and it looked like jazz, judging by the instrumentation. Took me a couple of plays for it to grow on me. The Latin feel is a good direction for today.

I have a modern theme going the past few days. Continuing ...

I found three Blue Note Fareed Haque CDs, One of which I'm spinning right now.
An odd one is a Delmark label all white "Not For Sale" promo CD in paper. I open it and there is a pic of him with his duet cohort, Goran Ivanovic, the word "Nederlandie" on the outside and that's it.
Also the pics are in a blue ink, same as the rest of the script on the cover.

Discogs is having some kind of tantrum right now, So except for listening, I'll have to look further into it later.
Usually Amazon has at least a listing of almost everything with some clues, but not this one. Maybe this Delmark never made it into production?

A Blue Note for now.
