Hmmm, so my feelings on the Fred Hersch are mixed @melvin. I actually listened to both the albums you posted on Tidal - the Gabor Bolla was pretty good, and more my cup of tea. But what to make of "Breath by breath", that's much harder for me.
First, my biases. I'm very much a hard bop/post bop kind of guy, with a sprinkling of more modern. So in terms of genre it's... well, it's not that. It is pretty well recorded and very interesting. I'm not sure it's even Jazz in some ways, it makes its own genre. It's certainly very jazz influenced.
I loved the sections with the full rhythm section, and some of the string playing is very tasty. I have a feeling I need to listen to it a few more times to really get it. It's certainly a very tight group, and I am *glad* I played it through. But I am still not 100% sure what to make of it. Honest answer: I added it to my playlists, and I'll come back to it, but I need to listen more carefully to really make sense of it. Of course, Fred is a marvelous player, so there's that...
