Hi Derek,

Mostly I listen to cds. About 98 percent to be honest. I do have a vinyl set up and I do clean records though so far only with the lowly "Spin Clean" machine. . . which does an okay job on not too many dirty records.

Over the last decade I have bought maybe 300 LPs and have about 700 LPs from my teenage years up to this century. I sold a lot of LPs in the 'nineties when I first married and needed the money. . . most of those I rebought as cds. I love cds, and my system is optimized for them. LPs still sound quite good but are a lower priority in the listening queue.

Joe Williams is in fine voice here. This cd is definitely not a victim of "the loudness war." I had to crank this one all the way up! This is the second cd today where I said "wow Budwig--what a bass player!"

Every time I spin this I find more interesting aspects to enjoy. This reminds me of and evokes in a way the way that I felt when as a younger man I would play the standup piano in the empty church sanctuary at times and also when I would close myself off in a University practice room and play the baby grand.

I didn't really take to this at first years ago but. . . it is now an adventure.

Lon….as you pointed out, there’s a lot of great music to explore by Lucky Thompson. This one I find to be very good…soft and mellow tone with clean arrangements. Currently streaming on Qobuz in CD quality.

I finish up work this morning at 0600 and then I’m off until after Christmas….this one will be the first one I pipe through the Torii.

I saw him a handful of times and it was always a joy. He mastered the Chicago Style!

I've had many copies of Miles Davis "Nefertiti" in various formats but this Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab SACD sounds the very best.

This LP cover always confuses me as it seems to me this one should be for "Sorcerer" and that one should be for "Nefertiti!" It always jars me a bit too that Herbie Hancock is in the right channel.
