I’ll be the first to admit that I get a little obsessive at times (OK maybe more than a little) I find myself playing this album over and over again. I mean daily for over a month. I’m trying to force myself not to listen to it because I enjoy it so much that I know at some point I’m going to burn myself out on it and it’s going to loose its magic. The whole album is in Portuguese so I don’t understand a single word that she’s singing but honestly it added to pleasure as I can just enjoy the instrument that is her voice and not get caught up on the words.

My favorite track on this album is Dindi. I didn’t realize it’s pretty much a standard Jobim song and loved it for its musical involvement. Thanks to the interweb I discovered this https://secondhandsongs.com/performance/10642/versions

and they show 355 different covers of Dindi and the Maria Bethania version is even listed. When I saw there was a Frank Sinatra version I was curious how how he was going to sing it in Portuguese? To my surprise there’s an English version and I’m completely blown away how the lyrics match the mood set by the melody. It’s a whole new song to me.

Because of streaming I can listen to as many versions as I want. So far I’m still stuck on the Maria Bethania as my favorite but I’m hoping to find some new artists.

This was a good day. . .Lucinda was off from Wednesday til today and I didn't get to listen much. I listened as much as I could today. I finished up the day of listening with a clean modern recording that was a bit polite but had some great late Joe Williams singing on it, Milt Jackson "The Prophet Speaks"

And wrapped it up with a beloved recording that is the opposite, a swamp of sound and exploration, Miles Davis "Bitches Brew," this time the Mobile Fidelity SACDs.

Just arrived via DHL: Warner Japan has reissued the four disc Aretha Franklin "Don't Fight the Feeling: Aretha Franklin and King Curtis Live at the Fillmore West" that was a limited edition Rhino "Hand Made" set years ago. I always wanted this and missed it til now. (In 2005 Japan released an SHM-CD version, this one appears to be just cd).

Well, all tubes do really. . . but rectifiers can really tie in a tube complement. I'm currently running two old RCA 5V4G in my Monoblocks and a Blackburn GZ32 in my CSP3. A rich and dynamic configuration with my other tubes.

Lon .. I was absolutely floored when I swapped in the NOS RCA. As you know my tube rolling experience has been somewhat limited (purposely I might add) and, while it's been easy to hear differences in the past, this rectifier showed me what's possible with Steve's creation. I think my slow paced tube rolling really helped me process each change. Fortunately we have a great group of members who freely share their knowledge and experience without the usual forum sniping. It's a breath of fresh air.

Antonio Carlos Jobim "Stone Flower" CTI/King Records Japan cd RVG remastered version.

This is a favorite that I haven't played in maybe a month. . . overdue for a revisit! This time the RVG cd version, which I like a lot.

This disc also helps me to gauge where my system is at and with a new transport, newly installed Telos audio XLR and RCA and BNC caps, and with Synergistic Research Orange fuses in the Monoblocks there have been a few changes. . . all leading to subtle improvements in the sound.

Also a fun album to listen to as snow falls through the trees seen through the window behind my system here on the second floor.

I'm not a big fan of Xmas music but I love this release. Roberts is a master and I have seen his amazing hands at the keys in person. One of the only persons whose hands I saw "blur" as he he raced up and down the keyboard, but each note was clearly delineated. Amazing talent, and ge communicates feeling.
