Been doing a lot of "comparative" listening this week, listening to different editions of the same title to decide which to keep and which to cull from the collection. Some fun, some tedium.

Today I didn't get to do any listening and then all of a sudden my wife said "I want to hear some Nat King Cole." Well my favorite Cole is the trio stuff but I know she doesn't like that, so I put on this "Pure Audio" Blu-ray Audio and she's digging it--big band stuff with that big baritone voice. . . . Realy nice 24/192 sound as well.

Seem to have picked up my first bad cold of the year and so I've been banned to the upstairs and get to listen to some music. I have the seventeenth disc of the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve" going ("From Left to Right" and extra material), which is "easy listening" in so many ways, which is nice for me right now as I need to take it easy. . . .

Two great LPs! I recently did a shootout between four different digital versions of the Rollins!

Right now
I've a cold that is taking its time getting better and yet luckily hasn't reached my ears. Wink

I'm chilling with the third disc of the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve," trio recordings and then a few with Stan Getz.

The system sounds fabulous of late. I never heard these Verve discs sound this good before. Wow. Bill was such a talent. He left behind a huge inventory of recordings. . . but I still think he was taken from us far too soon and we should have had more.

I have a two cd set of the Japanese "24 bit by RVG" Vols. 1 and 2 that sounds best to me for both volumes (it's in a fat-boy cd case, as issued--Vol.2 was never in the LP facsimile series). For Vol. 1 the Platinum SHM-CD from 2017 sounds best. . . but there's no alternates and no corresponding Vol. 2. I'm keeping that and the Japanese 2 cd set and will put the "24 bit by RVG" LP facsimile, the UHQCD from Japan and the two cd US RVG Edition aside for sale.

Jackie McLean "One Step Beyond" Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG cd. Man this sounds fantastic on the system as it is today.
Thelonious Monk "Genius of Modern Music" Blue Note Japan 24 bit by RVG cd. Also sounds fantastic on the system as it is today.
Stan Getz "A Go Go" Verve Originals Edition cd. Wanted to listen to vibes again, this time Gary Burton. Sounded really good.

This morning I listened to a disc that arrived in the mail yesterday. It's a Japanese LP facsimile cd in the TOCJ 'Super Bit Jazz Classics" series from years back. I had wanted to buy it then but hesitated at the high prices I saw, even though I have the material on LP and in a Mosaic set. Finally saw a reasonably priced copy, and it was sealed. I love this material--good old good 'uns as Pops would say, and Tea is in fine form and well-presented in excellent Capitol recordings:

Jack Teagarden "This is Teagarden"

After that I wanted to hear another horn player with as lyrical a sound and method:

Gary Bartz, "Reflections of Monk--The Final Frontier" Steeplechase cd

Followed by:

June Tyson, with Sun Ra "Saturnian Queen of the Sun Ra Arkestra" cd

Listening on newly acquired slightly used ZMF "Ori" headphones with cherry end caps. My Audeze LCD-2 lost a channel and so I'm using these now. Different sound than the Audeze, or my Oppo PM-1 or my Sennheiser HD800S which is good. Sounds nice driven by my Taboo Mk IV with the 25th Anniversary mods.

There were as many great Mobley albums held back from release during this time period as were released.

I love Art Hodes.

Had to get up early as I need to drive out to my Dad's to take him to an early appointment and then brunch. Listening on my ZMF Obi headphones. I still am not 100 percent sold on these headphones. . . more than my other headphones this one needs the ZROCK2, but I'm using them in a system without the ZROCK2. Maybe one day I'll have another.

Listening on my second system, the video centric one, Oppo UDP-205 to ZBIT to ZROCK2 to CSP3 with 25th Anniversary Mods to Sennheiser HD800S headphones.

My main system has a better source but the ZROCK2/CSP3/Sennheiser combo is the best headphone listening system I have. With the ZROCK2 and the CSP3 the Sennheiser HD800S are just astonishingly good.

I listened to the Hank Mobley "Thinking of Home" release within the new Mosaic box set of his later Blue Note albums.

I have always liked this album. It definitely works as a concept of "saudade" or missing home, and there are some great grooves to this album. Walton, Diehl, Bass and Williams really work well together. Eddie Diehl really delivers some excellent solos!

Followed by
Eliane Elias "Man of Mancha" on Concord cd.

Wow. All the elements of this work very well--concept and compositions, arrangements, performances and the recording and production.
