All the talk on another board about the new pressing of this LP made me dig out my "24 Bit by RVG" LP facsimile cd of Grant Green "Sunday Mornin'" Blue Note Japan.

It really is a good sounding session. And great playing. When Green brings out his bag of tricks on these songs great stuff happens. I really like the sound of his guitar on sessions of this time (P90 pickups, I think). And Kenny Drew is really "on" . . . .

Nice sound, music that isn't normally my cup of tea but nicely selected and sequenced.

If I were a neophyte to cds mastered from 78s I'd be really excited about the sound here, but truth is I've spent three decades exploring early recordings and there have been many good restorations and masterings along the way. But it is true there's an immediacy to the music brought about by the technology that is captivating. . . .

Great sound on this box set so far. And some really nice tracks.

Listening to the ZMF Ori headphones (black limbs wooden "cups"). These are broken in now and I'm enjoying the sound, which with all four headphone amps I have falls in between the warm and forceful Oppo PM-1 and the detailed and airy sounding Sennheiser HD800S. At the price I paid for these a very nice set of headphones that pairs really well with the Decware Taboo Mk III I'm using them with.

Played around with tubes in my main system today. The change that stuck is I put a six pack of Sylvania 6922 in the ZTPRE and a pair of orange labeled Amperex 7308 in the Monoblocks. Nice speedy but rich sound.

Hubert and his brother Ronnie are two exceptionally gifted technical and expressive players, but with different interests and goals.

I have neglected Hubert's CTI output for a long time and am revisiting it. There's some amazing music on these. This one and the second side of its predecessor, "The Crying Game," really give a 'seventies psychedelic fusion journey with a melding of classical, progressive sounding rock, and jazz. Smart arrangements and the pioneering electronic effects and their use by Laws and engineering really make for special soundscapes.
