Cool, rainy morning. Was a tiring day yesterday, fixed the motorized insulated blind on the main living room window, augured out a non-draining bath tub, and unsuccessfully attempted to fix the dryer--three things going wrong at once. I'm feeling like just melting into the chair this morning.

Neil Charles "Dark Days" Jazz Now cd

I took a punt for one of the 500 cd copies of this work because it reflects a work by one of my favorite authors, James Baldwin. I'm glad I did. A writer said of this performance (it was recorded live) "It refuses comfort." That's likely true for most listeners. It is challenging and intriguing.

Took a while to warm up the stereo today. We lost power sometime in the early morning and we were out a few hours. Then I spent time reseting the softener timer, oven clock, etc. A few things weren't working so it was down in the root cellar again flipping fuses. . . two were tripped. Sigh. Luckily no damages, everything is functioning but by then Lucinda was awake and we were eating and watching the news etc.

Started off with Duke Ellington on Nimbus, "From His Treasure Chest 1965 - 1972" . . . some stockpile recordings, some with Wild Bill Davis on organ.

Then on to an SACD received yesterday, a new reissue of my favorite Joni Mitchell album.

So I use this album when I want to hear low frequency bass. A buddy of mine has $25,000 stereo system installed in his convertible C5 Corvette with a 15” enclosed sub in the trunk. While the best I’ve heard was at Decfest playing on the Imperials…this was by far the second best. I was blown away!!

Now I’m enjoying it on my home system, and while the physical impact with the low frequencies are not the same, the overall sound is more balanced throughout the entire frequency range.

(I do do that at times). They spell it differently, a way that makes sense phonetically. This is a fun record!

Downright COLD this morning. Lucinda turned on the heat. . . I wouldn't have as I savor the coolness of these past days, but I'll not complain! Fall is near and I'm happy about that.

Starting off with another disc from the "Enjoying the Ride" Grateful Dead 60th Anniversary box set, Frost Amphitheater, Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA (8/20/83), disc 1

Only 5 more discs to go in this set. I'm pretty ambivalent about this set overall, fun to go through, don't think I'll be revisiting it often, may put it up for sale.
