I'm a huge huge HUGE fan of Antonio Carlos (Tom) Jobim. I'll recommend a few of his and a few interpretations of his work by others.

This one is absolutely one of my favorite recordings, ever.

Antonio Carlos Jobim: Stone Flower

The new 40th Anniversary cd sounds wonderful.

This is one of his last recordings, and I love it.

Originally it was a very limited edition release and nearly impossible to get, now it's reissued and sounds even better and easy to get.

Two GIANTS together. 'Nuff said.

This husband and wife cello/arranger and singer team hooked up with a Japanese pianist/composer/Jobim fanatic and recorded two easy to get very excellent recordings that are like chamber music bossa nova, truly beautiful and moving

Morelenbaum2Sakamoto recordings

Jacques and Paula Morelenbaum joined together with Jobim's son Paulo for this album, very recommended; Paulo is also on the two above.

Paula Morelenbaum has made several fascinating recordings on her own that fuse classic bossa nova with more modern pop and dance sounds and this is a desert island disc for me.

A friend of mine turned me on to this one about ten years ago and I love it, it's modern and classic and just darned great to listen to. Edu Lobo's first American recording.

Celso Fonseca makes the women swoon and these two cds are very very good.

Gal Costa has a voice that my Mom has called "the most beautiful ever." She's been a huge star in Brazil and this is both a great cd release and a great DVD release:

These are the recordings that really started it all. . ..

And a friend of mine would say "You must check out JOYCE!"

And not really bossa nova, but one of my favorite Brazilian artists, Tania Maria --- I just love her singing, piano playing and writing.

Mine IS stereo, so it may not be valuable, but the sound is incredibly "fat" and "Ray Charlesey" The piano takes up the entire room width wise and the voice takes up the entire room height wise.

(Still using my three SB84Cs and my OB speaker system - have not found anything to even touch my OBs for sheer, basal music enjoyment)

Right now

I usually listen to this one with the polarity reversed (I have a switch on my DAC(s)) but I'm at my parents' place now and it's too much trouble to reverse the speaker wire ends for this one disc. I think the wiring was reversed when mastering this one. . . it sounds so much better with the polarity reversed. Great music!
