After a brief excursion to play Led Zeppelin's "Presence" (remastered, and man I did not realize how muscular my system has become!) another abrupt change to:

This is one disc of two, in the Verve Elite series ("The Swinger" is the first disc). The mastering by Kevin Reeves is a little on the bright and thin side, reversing the phase helps a bit.

Last time I listened to this was the mono mix (on Platinum SHM-CD). Both mixes are excellent listens. Herman Foster brings a very unique feel to the dates with Lou. I always like Peck Morrison on bass, and Dave Bailey is a great partner for him here. And I've come to really like Ray Baretta on this one.

Blah blah blah time for a music post!

My wife actually surprised me by requesting some music while she cooks in the kitchen. (Both the request and the cooking are rare occurrences!) So I deliberated. . .what will work for her. . . and that I want to hear. . . and put this one on.

As she's singing in the kitchen as she chops veggies I think I chose wisely.

Well, I've come to the conclusion I like most input tubes in my Monoblocks...I must not be too picky :) The 1968 Mullard 6DJ8s are very nice, the Russian Tubes Steve recommended were very good and, of course, the white Label Amperex 7308s are great. I think my audio memory is about a Nanosecond. Soon I'll be trying a "New" testing pair of 1962
Amperex White label 6922s. I asked the seller for the actual test results and his reply was they didn't do extensive testing...odd. You stick them in the tester or not...right. Anyway the tube print and pins look brand new so I may try them in the Torii MK IV where matching is more of an issue. I've only had a known matched pair of the 7308s in there for years.

Anyway, this now...CD 1...

I've been listening to CDs with the 1962 White Label Amperex 6922s I recently purchased....the ones pictured here days ago. They are very nice in the Monoblocks...maybe a bit better than the 7308's. I'll have to do an A/B to decide. I like them so much I bought another pair. Only problem is aside from the seller saying they test new, I don't know their electical condition or if they are near matched. When I purchased the second pair he said..."we use a very simple tester that doesn't do in depth measurements. We test at 6 volts, then at 4 volts to see if there is a change in value." If someone more familiar with testing tubes could tell me what this means, I'd be grateful. Mark
