Need help identifying loose wire (Read 4047 times)

Need help identifying loose wire

My SE84UFO developed a bit of noise in the volume pot so I opened it up to clean the pot. While it was open I took a close look around to see if anything else needed a cleaning. That's when i spotted this rogue wire just hanging around. Looks like the wire comes from the transformer. It looks like it may have slid off the power switch??? If anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it!

I am thinking this is likely a transformer lead that was not needed or this amp's operation so capped off. Maybe for 240 volts???

Thanks Will, I think you may be correct. The amp has been flawless, other than the scratchy pot that just developed a week or two ago. There aren't many pics under the hood on these amps out there, but I found one that seems to have the same unconnected wire. My eyes are not what they used to be, I'm pretty certain there is no solder on the end of the loose wire so I'm going to button it back up.

Also, just turning it back and forth lots of times, can solve the scratchy sound sometimes.

Yep. When it first happened I did the back n forth rotate. It would clear up for a bit, but kept coming back. I opened it up yesterday and gently sprayed the pot and ran the knob back n forth. Since I wasn’t going to listen last night, I cleaned the RCA’s and speaker terminals and let it sit to allow any excess to evaporate. I’ll find out tonight if it worked.

Just a few days ago I cleaned an old pot with deoxit pot lubricant, as small a spray as I was able to pull off into each channel on the pot, swiped it back and forth a bit, and it is silent now.
