Robbie Robertson

The great Robbie Robertson passed away today at 80 years young. From The Band, to his solo albums, to Playing for Change, his contribution was awesome. He influenced me greatly...

We named our daughter Annalee. She’s not as impressed by their music as I am.

He had such an imagination about the past and put it to good use with his narratives. When I hear “Music From Big Pink” it sounds like covers of unknown 19th century songs instead of contemporary music and that tells me he accomplished his aim engaging the listener. This Thanksgiving we'll watch the “Last Waltz” and give thanks for Robbie and his mates.

When my wife and I saw the Last Waltz opening in Calgary (we were doing a workshop at the Banff Center for Fine Arts), there was a loud cheer and standing ovation at the end! I think that was 1978. Thanks for the reminder. I will try to watch it again!

I particularly loved his playing on Dylan's "Planet Waves!"

First we lost Levon Helm, now Robbie.

I'm glad that Robbie' son Sebastian, was able to arrange the "Playing for Change" doc before he passed.

Grace Slick is a year older than me..........  Some say old age is "The Golden Age", I say that is BS!
