Weirdly shaped open floor plan speaker placement.
02/05/22 at 03:20:15

I've got a really weird room that's openly attached to several other rooms, and possessing 18 ft ceilings. As you can see by the included photo drawings, it completely open on 2 sides, which makes it impossible to place speakers equidistant from any walls.

It's not a bad sounding room. We've got lots of furniture and rugs and such, and it's not echo(y) at all. I would just really appreciate some knowledge and advice from the Decware crowd on what I should do, and or expect as is for the best soundstage. It's so weirdly shaped, I'm just not sure what's best.

I'm running Norman Lab Model 9s, and I'll be pushing them with a Torii MKV...ZP3, turntable only.

Thanks!

What abut setting up on a diagonal with the speakers either side of the top left corner?  I think Steve did a White Paper on something like that.

"It's not a bad sounding room"

Sometimes we quest for better sound when it is already there.

I am an advocate for room treatments.  But, you may have something that might be as close to as good as it can be.

Try to analyze the frequency response at various points in the room.  Looking for any abnormalities.  For instance, bass louder in the wrong location.

Whatever, good luck.

The main issue I see is the wall of windows behind the speakers. Some diffusion panels covering part of the windows will help the sound. The WAF will determine how much you can get away with Wink  Here is photo of what I’ve done. The windows are partially covered, but still let a lot of light in.

And pulling the speakers away from the wall behind a bit could help. You can experiment with that.

I hadn't even considered a diagonal orientation. That might be cool. Those window treatments are nice, I should probably implement something like that as well!

Steve has three white papers that cover theory and practice under articles of the main Decware page

How to setup a room without treatment
Another must read for anyone setting up a dedicated or semi-dedicated room.

Optimal Listening Room dimensions
You could be sitting in a potentially perfect room and not know it.
