SE84UFO25 vs TORII MK4 vs ZMA
12/04/21 at 03:04:23

Hello folks,

Need some advice please: I am in the process of purchasing Lii Audio drivers (the Silver 10 and the W-15 or W-10). Can someone please tell me the best amp to drive the drivers? I currently have the SE84UFO25 but from my understanding, this amp is not enough to drive both drivers at once; I will only be able to drive the W-10 and not the W-15. I was advised to purchase the Crown XLS amp to drive the W-15 and use the SE84UFO25 to drive the W-10. Looking at the profile of the TORII MK4 and ZMA, it seems like either amp would be able to drive both drivers. If one amp can drive both drivers, I would prefer that as I think I would get better sound? Which amp would yield the best results?
Oh, and the speakers I am building will be Open Baffles.

Thanks in advance folks,

Alex

The SE84UFO25 can easily drive the two speakers in parallel, so no reason to get the TORII or ZMA yet...

I believe the issue is the difference in efficiency between the two drivers, and when hooked in parallel the higher efficiency will dominate the sound.  You have to either turn the 10 inch driver down, or turn the W15 up.

If you use a pair of UFO25's and set them to have the right frequency balance, the volume will be limited by the W15's efficiency so that's not a good option.

Using a TORII or ZMA to drive the W15 would give you enough power to keep up with the UFO25 on the higher efficiency 10.

If you use a solid state amplifier it is important that you make sure the signal feeding the amplifier is embedded with the even order harmonics of the UFO25 via a signal from the speaker wires and make sure that the solid state amp has an input gain control.

Steve

Steve, thank you for your response. I forgot to add that I do have the ZROCK II and I do not plan on using a crossover.
