litefootdan Seasoned Member Online Posts: 193	Need New Output Tubes!!! 04/07/17 at 21:44:17 Sorry if this has been discussed before and I missed it.... But I need new output tubes for my Tori MKIV. I'd like to get a new quad of KT66's. Is there a consensus on which new production tubes are performing the best? Any help, experience, and tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals

Here's my experience with the three that I have tried in my Torii Mk III, I bet the performances are similar in the IV:

All these quads are "new production" "reissue" tubes.

The Tung-Sol I liked the least. Rough treble for me and nothing else really distinguishing them.

The Genelax Gold Lions are very good. Touch of warmth, nice frequency balance and dynamics overall.

The TAD I have liked the most. Just have a touch of refinement on top of great frequency balance and dynamics. On top of that I have a quad that have been going strong for over a year and a half, longer than the other two brands lasted me. Shuaguang are probably very similar, I think TAD either hand picks from theirs or has a slightly different spec run in that factory.

All three quads I've tried are cryo'd from cryoset.com a nice place to do business with decent prices.

It began sort of working toward specific needs, but there is a lot about power tubes there. I know I did a lot of listening and writing along with other's.

There are several other threads with lots of power tube info too. Maybe do the forum search for KT66 MKIV power tube.... or similar.

Reply #4 - 04/12/17 at 20:19:54 You should also try Psvane Treasure 6CA7-T tubest, there is no other tube as musical and with such a HUGE resolution 😳 They do not last long combined with 0A3 voltage regulators, but with 0B3 voltage regulators they last forever and is anyway a better combo (at least in my system).

Right now I'm still testing my Fuller 6ca7 Dark Glass (special limited edition) tubes, I really like them too. But can't recommend as you can't find them 😕 What voltage regulators are you using with them?

Interesting that the Fuller's are dark because mine are dark as well, wonder if they are similar or same and rebranded PSvane and Fuller. I'm currently using a pair of rca 0a3. I do alternate with a set of Raytheon ob3 but i've been happy with this line up.
I've also picked up some 75c1 based on Will's recommendation and they are nice in the oc2 spots.

I already ordered some 75C1 tubes, thank you for recomendations! 🙂

Here are my favorites and just in that order (the best option first):

Input tubes:
Russian 6N30P-DR, Sylvania 7308

Output tubes:
Fuller 6CA7, Psvane 6CA7-T, Psvane EL34PH replica, Genalex Gold Lion KT77, Tung-Sol KT120

Rectifiers:
Western Electric 422A, Cossor 52-KU, USAF-596, SYLVANIA 5Y3GT

Voltage regulators:
OB3 + OB2 (didn't find any difference between different brands!)
