What cables are you using with your ZMA?

I am looking for input from Mystery amp owners on their cable choices, particularly interconnects and speaker cable.  I would like to upgrade and will be using the Mystery amp in combination with a Decware CSP3 preamp.  Thanks.

HK...what are you currently using for cables?

IMO...I have tried a few different cables and find that smaller gauge cables let through more detail and harmonics.  I currently use Audience cables.

I got the balanced upgrade for my ZMA - I find that balanced cables are less finicky than unbalanced. I have just a regular pair of decent $100 1.5M cables from...Morrow I think they are. I really don't hear much improvement until I start plugging in some $1000+ cables

I tend to like silver speaker cables, so I'm using some triple braided 10AWG silver plated milspec wire that's similair to the Decware Styx, just 10AWG instead of 8AWG. I also have used some actual raw Decware Styx wire I found a whole spool of in the back of a warehouse, but when other people heard them they offered to buy them off me and I've not made another pair.

I feel that silver or silver plated speaker wire can make edgy sounding systems more edgy - But my system is pretty neutral/honest so it's very garbage in - garbage out. Good recordings sound amazing, and bad recordings don't play for long at my place. LOL

Dave 1210,

I am using Reality Cables (unshielded 1M RCA's) from sources to my CSP3 preamp.  Then a 3M length of VH Audio Pulsar IC's (shielded) from CSP3 to my ZMA amp.  I also use Reality Cables speaker cable.

The Pulsar interconnect utilizes a FINE (28 AWG), SINGLE high-purity BARE copper center conductor, surrounded by a solid FEP dielectric and is cryogenically treated.  I believe the Reality Cables are cyrogenically treated copper as well.

Hi
Interesting, because I tested all possible speaker cables in past two months, finally I think I know something about audio cables too (as
I have worked for more than ten years in the data cable industry).

Choosing the right cable for DIY is not very difficult thing.

1. SILVER or SILVER PLATED COPPER - In tube world where we are at the starting point where everything is too warm, the best result can be achived with silver or good silver plated cable (If your goal is: high resolution, clarity, air, texture, accuracy, realistic bass..).

2. SHIELDED CABLE - You may like some unshielded cables, but once you realise how much more you get with shielded cable, unshielded no longer an option...as long as you remember to ground correctly 😉

3. LOW OF EVERYTHING: low resistance, low inductance and low capacitance. When you chose silver or silver plated cable you're almost there. Make sure that you do not spoil everything by chosing wrong AWG or shitty connectors. I recommend WBT 0610 Ag silver connectors (or any other WBT NextGen connectors. Of course for silver cable silver connectors!).

For bi-wire I also recommend: Mil-Spec AWG 10/12/14/16  4x conductor, shielded silver plated stranded teflon cable (aviation cable). You can also find Mil-Spec 2x conductor version if you do not like to bi-wire.
