tube socket pinouts

Hey, I've noticed that on at least some PCBs the numbers for the first and last pin are printed where the sockets are to be placed.  They look reversed to me and I'm wondering what I'm missing.  Thoughts?  Help!!!  😔

Would it be that the sockets are supposed to be mounted on the opposite side of the board from the rest of the components?
I've never seen one of those PCBs in person so I can't say I know what I am talking about.  :-[

That was one of the first things I wondered about but I looked around and found pictures of sockets mounted to PCBs.  They showed what I believe is pin one on the socket with a "9" or a "7" on the PCB beneath it.  Just to be sure I understand it correctly, if I take a 7 pin socket, for example, and hold it so I'm looking at the side the tube goes in, pin 1 is the first pin clockwise after the gap, isn't it?

I think you have it backwards based on this post:

And this image:

And as a double-check maybe follow the trace of one of the pins to other board circuitry to see if it makes schematic sense.
