OK,  keep in mind I'm a technical ludite and play music via Vinyl and CDs with a conventional CD player...none of this firmware or computer stuff.  I downloaded the "24 bits of Christmas" yesterday in FLAC but can't figure out how to play the songs back.  Windows media says it isn't compatible. The computer they were downloaded on has Window 7.  I assume I have to download some kind of software...player.  Free would be good.  Thanks in advance for your help.  Mark.

Foobar2000 is free, and an excellent player, but the initial setup is probably pretty daunting for someone who professes to not like computer audio.

You can get Windows Media Player to play FLAC by adding a CODEC. A codec is basically a file or program that tells your media player how to decode FLAC, since FLAC is a Loss-Less compressed format.

I've not used this one, but here is a quick guide I found doing a Google search for you.

One thing to keep in mind - when your stuck using Windows software that goes through the "mixer" built into the Windows operating system - there is a good chance your *not* listening to bit-perfect sound. So whatever you're hearing, it could be noticeably better with a better software.

Alternatively,  one can download the tracks in Apple lossless ALAC format and use the free apple player for Windows.
