Valve overload, maybe

I have already sent this to Steve, but I thought I would post it as well.

I think I have a major issue with one of my monos, but I hope not.

I was playing some CD’s this morning and just happened to check the VU metres as I walked past, and noticed that the right hand VU metre on one of the monos was showing 150mille amps.

I turned down via the rear button and reset both to 60, and everything was ok for the rest of the session.

Tonight I had the amps turned to warm them up and after about 15 minutes I heard a “thump” come through the speakers; the pre-amp was in sleep mode; and saw the big valve on the right hand side of the same amp from this morning glowing bright red.

As I got up the were two more “thumps” and the amp shut down.

The glow seemed to travel down a bit like the “ light tree” at a drag strip. I turned the amp off.

After 30 minutes I pulled the offending valve out and could not detect any burning and no rattling from the valve when I gave it a shake.

I turned the amp back on, but nothing.

Any clues as to my next step.

I hope my explanation was not too technical.

Anyone have any ideas. Cry

Next day.

Steve advised of a faulty tube and a blown fuse.

Job done.

thanx Steve for the quick response. Smiley
