Steve,

Amp sounds great! Thank you very much for your helpful suggestions and diagnostic repair.  I also have a question about the Christmas upgrade/addition to my amplifier kit.  How would I go about ordering that and what is included in that?

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

The CCE mod requires you to modify the circuit board by cutting the trace between pins 3 and pins 6.  Then you can install a 0.1uf 400 volt poly cap between the two pins.

Hmmm - I installed the Christmas mod capacitors, but didn't cut any traces. Pins 3 and 6 do not look connected on the schematic, nor on the graphic of the board in the assembly instructions. (I presumed that the NC beside pin 6 meant not connected).

Steve, is it the traces between pins 3 and 8 which need to be cut?

Some of the early boards did not have 3 and 6 connected, the later ones did.

Ta. I must have an early board - looking at my photographs, no traces on either side attached to pin 6.

Any other differences with the early boards?

NB I was wrong - it is a later board, and pins 3 and 6 are connected beneath the tube holders.

The early boards had a full shield that proved to be have a greater potential to cause noise problems than it did to prevent noise problems so it has been eliminated from the current production.

EDITED

Steve - turns out I have a later board (rev 7 2009). Now I know where I stand. Thanks.
