Steely Dan Aja! this morning on vinyl. Listening with my recently upgraded Modwright Instruments PH 9.0XT phono preamplifier. The power supply unit has been upgraded with tube rectification.

While the preamp and my Sophia Aqua Blue 274B tube is still settling in, the sound is truly spectacular on this well recorded album. Well done Daniel Wright !

Time to break out more vinyl in the weeks to come.

All the talk on another board of Erroll Garner made me reach for this from the shelves, his earliest recordings recorded at Timme Rosenkrantz's apartment and later released by Bllue Note.

I wonder what his twin brother Ernest. I do know his older brother Linton preceded him as a piano performer in Pittsburgh.

Doing a Miles Davis "reset" to my ears and my mind.

I have a nephew visiting for the weekend. They should be here in an hour or so. He loves my stereo! I brought my Infinity subwoofers back in for him, just for a day or a short while.
He will want to hear some Metallica, Black Sabbath and various other metal favorites. I always spoil him rotten. But I also make him listen to some Blue Oyster Cult, too. I probably mentioned a nephew who keeps me in fresh maple syrup from his own trees and business endeavor. This is him.

I mean if I actually had a favorite nephew and all ... anyway they are on thier way south as he goes on vacation to New Orleans. He says the best time to hit N'rleans is after they clean up Mardi Gras and get back to partying right. RIGHT!

For the next play is Nefertiti.

Spinning some wonderful RTI test pressings I bought from Acoustic Sounds many years ago, cheap. Bill Evans, Art Pepper, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ray Brown and more.

These albums just sound AMAZING in my new vinyl set up. The combination of my new Audio Technica AT-OC9XML cartridge and Daniel Wright 's MWI PH 9.0XT phono preamp with the Sophia Aqua 274B is a match made in vinyl heaven.

Accuracy, detail, extended treble & bass, and an immersive soundstage soundscape I could never imagine possible. It just all sounds so realistic.

Inner Secrets and Greastest Hits(1974) are the other two. Spent 7 hours searching his shelfs over 3 visits. Can only stand so long in a unheated building during winter months! Purchased 39 albums. 16 played and only one with issues so far.

Kids have all headed south now, on their way to New Orleans for a week of fun.

On the way home after a venture I tuned in a college radio show highlighting some Big Band sounds of bygone days. So pleasant!

I'm pulling out some of my Duke Ellington records for the evening. I only have a bare few, but with that last post and the radio broadcast I found, synchronicity just happens sometimes.

I had a mishap with the JVC turntable. Flipping to the last(4th) side of DE birthday concert it was noticed that my speed strobe indicator was not displaying properly! All lights are on without the usual stripe pattern. Putting some pressure on the rim of the platter in an attempt to see if the lights moved did not change things and killed the table dead. No movement! Took it out to the shop disassembled and found a blown fuse. Replaced fuse and it worked but the light is the same solid(5 leds lit) without a stripe pattern.

Time to eat dinner. Some halluski. Second day always taste better!

Went back to the shop reassembled and timed the turntable using a mark on the rim and iPad stop watch. 33 turns in 59.6 seconds. Well it is stable so I put it back in service. No noticable flutter or pitch change.

Played the last side of DE and guess what? First track has a few skips. No scratches but noticable stripes in a few groves. Anothe factory flaw? Going to keep it anyhow and may try sometime in the future to clear the grooves. The album is a keeper for sure despite the little flaw.

Now playing The Animals last attempt "Ark". Kind of new wave/post punk. It is in good shape so it was grabbed.

Eight more played from the Vinly Man's haunt two that are just a tad too much SCP. Styx is clean. Not a very big sound stage and has lazer etching on one side. Country Joe McDonald "Goodbye Blues" and Gordon Lightfoot "Summertime Dream" are just noisy.
Spirit "Farther Along", John Mayall "Dreams"' Santana "Inner Secrets", Steve Miller Band "Anthology", Molly Hatchet "The Deed is Done" are keepers. I would definitely trade the records condition between Country Joe and Molly Hatchet in a perfect world Cry

Oscar Peterson’s “Tenderly” with Herb Ellis and Ray Brown on 180 gram double vinyl.

This is not only my first play of this album since I got it, but it’s also with the Groovetracer Reference sub platter installed. The Groovetracer was definitely a worthy upgrade. I’m hearing a lower noise floor and more clarity. Peterson’s keystrokes resonate with a nice echo. Needless to say I’m enjoying this album immensely! Got 20% discount from Elusive Disc with my first order. The Beatles and Elton John’s “Diamonds” are up next..but I have to wait for the wife since she requested them.
