Reply #29550 - 10/26/26 at 20:00:08 I finally picked up a copy of the Craft cd of the Savoy title "Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra." Sounds really good (mastered by Paul Blackmore). But so does the Savoy/Denon cd I've had since that was first released. It's one of my favorite Sun Ra discs.

A cool morning out there, felt nice. Starting off with Bob Dylan "Planet Waves," the second Dylan I purchased, on LP. I love the arrangements here with the band, and these songs paint a little world I really want to inhabit.

There's a coolness to this next one that led me to pick it from the shelves. I haven't spun this release in some time! Just a quiet fire to this collaborative material, masters producing masterful collaborations. Miles appears on the first five selections and Lee on the first six. Teddy Charles seems the leader of the remaining session.

Didn't sleep too well, a lot on my mind--both my wife and I are dealing with things we don't want to and feeling a little overwhelmed.

The morning is a bit warmer and very still. An owl hooted at us as we walked around the block, Tobi being rather more full of pep than usual. I realize how lucky I am to have such a great dog, a real companion.

Starting off with a two cd set that I have wanted for a long time and finally saw an affordable, sort of, copy that arrived yesterday. I never realized that the outer case of this set was actually metal! Although I have a lot of the material on other cd releases, sixteen of these were previously unreleased at the time (1993) and I had not heard all of them. Great music, very well presented!

A cold morning. Of course, it's Halloween day, it's always at least cold here on Halloween, usually with wind and rain. . . we sit at the opening of our driveway for a few hours giving out candy. BRR. Have that to look forward to.

Starting off the day with Teddy Charles "New Directions" Prestige/OJC cd. Innovative sessions from 1951-1953. Teddy Charles (vibes, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel), Hall Overton (piano), Kenny O’Brien (bass), Don Roberts (guitar), and Ed Shaughnessy (drums). Very forward looking chamber jazz.

Well, a disappointing Halloween. . . only ten trick or treaters, about a third of what has been normal in the past few years. And though cold it was the nicest weather in a long time, no rain or wind. Sigh.

Daylight savings is over, I usually look forward to that extra hour 'falling back' but this season sleep is more elusive and now I'm up listening to music, which is oaky if I can get an extra hour in!

Now on to disc 2 of this excellent 2 cd set!

That looks like a good one!

Right now I finally get to sit down for a little listen and selected disc 2 of this new Jazz in Britain 3 cd set from Stan Tracey's Spectrum, "Tribute to Thelonious Monk"

So far I find these interpretations both Monkian and non-Monkian, a very hard to balance presentation. I like the two discs I've been through.
