I've always loved this woman's work, as well as her esteemed husband's. I was remembering today how much Chris Albertson seemed to detest her work. Makes me chuckle because that's not the only time we disagreed online!

Flora Purim "Speak No Evil" cd

Ever since I first discovered Flora on her first Milestone album I've been a fan. Listening to this yesterday briefly her version of "You Go to My Head" really moved me.

Going way back in time now, to a Jelly Roll Morton Jazz Oracle cd. This is one of about 20 Jazz Oracle discs that I discovered are duplicates--I bought second copies during the eleven years these were In storage because I wanted to enjoy them and couldn't get at their boxes in the unit.

I see that in a few weeks there is a new 2 cd set reissuing his first recordings coming out. These are fascinating recordings! Mosaic Records also plans a box set of his early recordings probably to be released next year. Life is good for those who appreciate the earliest jazz.

Jelly Roll Morton "Rarities: Rare Band & Blues Sides"

I really should list all those duplicate Jazz Oracles for sale one of these days.

A quite cool, quiet morning. I'm starting off with the last show to listen to in the Grateful Dead "Summer Magic 1985" box set. Disc 15.

These were some big shows!

I rolled driver tubes in my amplifier and enjoying a slightly warmer sound this morning. All the nine pin tubes are Holland made at the moment, the cumulative sound is very nice.

A cold morning, clear and still. Went for a brief flashlight illuminated walk with Tobi and now starting the listening day off with disc V of "Classic Decca Recordings of Bob Crosby and His Orchestra & The Bob Cats (1936–1942" from Mosaic Records.

I was thinking of starting off with one of the volumes from Jazz Oracle's 7 disc series of Ben Pollack releases, but decided on this disc--the men from the Pollack Orchestra and Pick-a-Rib Boys became the core of the Bob Crosby Orchestra, and their full swinging style is really fun to hear.

I did a lot of physical stuff yesterday and paid the price with some leg pain and had trouble sleeping. Just gave up trying and started listening.

It's cold, and Tobi and I didn't take an early early walk. We'll walk in a bit. Started my listening session with Charles Lloyd "The Call" ECM cd.

Followed by the last disc to listen to in the Grateful Dead "Summer Magic 1985" disc 17 (I listened to discs 18-20 out of order).
