Even quieter than usual this morning, and nice and cool.

Decided to start the day off with this album by bassist Harish Raghavan, "In Tense" on Whirlwind Records. Whrilwind has put out a number of good recordings. This one features Joel Ross, never a bad thing.

Harry James was one of my Mom's favorites. . . I think she thought he was handsome, that was probably more of a deciding factor than his trumpeting or band leading!

Right now I'm listening to disc 3 of this 4 cd set that features one track from each year the Grateful Dead performed.

Vince Giordano and the Night Hawks "Bill Challis’ - The Goldkette Project"

Actually conducted by Bill Challis. Great sound.

From Giordano's website:

Bill Challis contributed most of the best arrangements for the Jean Goldkette Orchestra from 1926-1927. Sixty years later, he conducted Vince Giordano's Nighthawks in their versions of 16 of his charts (including a pair of three-song medleys). With cornetist Tom Pletcher taking Bix Beiderbecke's place and such top players as trumpeter Peter Ecklund, trombonist Dan Barrett, clarinetist Bob Wilber, pianist Dick Wellstood, and Goldkette alumnus Spiegel Wilcox on trombone guesting with the Nighthawks, the results are outstanding and very enjoyable.

And the music is swinging! A reissue of a Columbia LP box set that was well-edited and transferred. The material is mostly from Camel Caravan broadcasts.

Saw my breath outside this morning! Nice and cool indeed. Rained last night though, so Tobi was uncomfortable and it was wet . . . .

Starting off with a two SACD set I haven't listened to in a while. In the 'seventies this was one of my most played LP sets. I just reveled in its funk and vivid sound.
