Continuing with my revisitation of Benny Goodman recordings. He was quite the bandleader!

Ironically enough, I was listening to him last night! Back over 40 years ago when I used to work at my uncle’s tailor shop… I remember him playing a lot of of Benny Goodman, and at that time, I didn’t like it. I would’ve never guessed that would be listening to him today, but I think its partly because it’s very familiar music.

Right now, enjoying this duo while having a cup of coffee and checking my emails.

Yes, my Dad played clarinet and bass clarinet in high school and he played Goodman records when I was growing up, and I saw Goodman speak and play and shook his hand when I was at the University of Chicago. . .so familiarity leads to my listening to him as well. Quite an artist, and also an early sponsor of mixed racial bands (IMO a good thing).

Reply #28903 - Yesterday at 21:57:41 Very cool and interesting info about him. While Roon was playing recommended music, a song came up that caught my ear that I really liked. When I went to the album…it was from Cohn and Zoot. So I’m enjoying this album from them.

Lots of good Al And Zoot recordings out there! Both were highly influenced by Lester Young and had played together often before joining as occassional co-leaders.
