Cannonball Adderley Quintet "Country Preacher" Capitol cd

I forget how powerful this disc is. This Quintet had paid its dues and their funkiness here comes right from the expertise in jazz performance they amassed working together. It's blues, jazz, all music out of one source according to Cannon here.

Cannonball's playing is so gut and flow but always, on soprano or alto, has a beauty of its own, an inevitablity from his skill, that sort of melodic beauty and inevitability of Bird, or the Rabbit on alto. . . .

Great stuff. Zawinul really shines here.

I'm just not a big Nelson fan. This cd also includes "Experience in E" as a bonus track, which I like more.

From 2013. A very interesting and somewhat atypical Holland album.

PS: Somewhere on this board (couldn't locate it quickly) I posed the question: does anyone here have experience with Tung Sol black glass 12AU7 I have one now and ordered another. Sounds really good with all my other smoked/black glass/carbon lined tubes, whih are all of them except the ZROCK3 tube.

A very varied and interesting box set.

Marveling at how wonderful the system sounds this morning. Started off with side 2 of "Ellington Jazz Party in Stereo" Columbia LP. . . the engineering on this is just superb, and with Mr. Five by Five and Dizzy the music just soars, and all that percussion!

I'm continuing on a revisit of this interesting set of Herman music. Great sound!

Listening to this set is reminding me of how much of a clarinet fan I am. My Dad played both clarinet and bass clarinet in high school, and when he married and entered the seminary he sold both and never reacquired or played again. He did listen to a lot of Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw and later I got him interested in Pee Wee Russell. Wish I could have heard him play--he understood music.
