Trying out an LP, "Trumpet Exodus" by Don Goldie on Verve.

This is a different sounding Goldie album than I've heard before. It's his sort of Bobby Hackett mood music album perhaps, and at times it sounds like the "theme" music that it partly contains. But man Goldie is Goldie, that beautiful full warm tone. Those ideas which are not held back. Focusing on his playing it's all good man.

Cold! The city of Chardon is reporting 102" of snow received this winter. We live in the hills above Chardon and usually get a little more. This is a heavy winter indeed. More snow predicted today, perhaps not a lot.

I'm getting in on the fun among jazz fans and listening to the final disc in the Tower Records Edition SACD set of Miles Davis "Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel." Music I've enjoyed for decades now.

My wife fell asleep early and I turned in but woke up and had trouble going back to sleep so I'm doing some listening.

I pulled out a Sun Ra reissue from last decade I had little memory of and it's an interesting date. No bass player, which creates an interesing "space" in the music, sort of wish Ronnie Boykns was present. A radio broadcast from the Philadelpphia period which is one of the final Ra periods I am really interested in. Lots of Ra piano and good Gilmore and Allen playing.

I'm obsessing about the Dynagrid Jr. I'm trying to just forget about what it brings to the sound and just escape into the music. . . . As much as I love the equipment I futz and fret over, I love the music more. The money I spent on music. . . wow. . . so much. But so much joy in the exploration and inundation.

This material is from 1963 and rather "out there" but an interesting sonic experience. Suits the hour and my mood. This is very 1963 exploratory jazz, sounds like a time capsule to me.

Yesterday evening we got about an inch of snow but the temperature in the 20s felt good! We took a nice walk before a late dinner. Colder now, 11 but should make it up to 20 this afternoon. I'll take it.

Starting off with a cd I haven't heard for some time, which is making me realize again what a fantatic aitist Connie Kay was.Took me a while to realize his always appropriate accompaniment.

A very handsome set, with a fat booklet. And the sound seems really really good.

Sound on each format is very good, less surface noise on the cd! I really love Marty Grosz who is a real catalyst for the swing here.

Well I'm playing a lot of music tonight.

I'm stuck in a recliner with a tube draining stuff out of my belly, recovering from serious surgery on my pancreas to remove some cancer.

The surgeon claims that he got everything and I'm on the road to recovery!

So any music sounds great to me tonight. Well except Jazz (sorry Lon)!

Up early and looking out on the new snow. Decided to play this new arrival. I have this music in several formats, the Mosaic LP version, a newer (and crisper) cd version, and this earlier cd version that sounds a lot like a straight unfutzed with LP transfer.

The music is truly "timeless" if there ever were timeless jazz. Lester Young leading great outfits and the joy and skill shine forth. It's been too longe since I've listened to these tracks!

"Songbook by Jason Palmer" Ayva cd

This was I believe Jason Palmer's first release as a leader and it sounds very "mature." Palmer deserves more attention. All his original compositions on this one, as well as excellent support from a few "names."

I had forgotten about this expensive cd I ordered from Japan* until I saw a picture posted showing someone else was listening to it. I think I only played it once before, I like it, I like Jose James, a cool singer. This one is sort of a tribute to Erykah Badu, with a cover reminiscent of one of Alice Coltrane's album covers.
