About 14" of snow overnight, and it's been 14 degrees F for a while. I went out and did most of the clearing I needed to before my hands got too cold--just have about four feet of the driveway yet to clear, though it's pretty thick there due to the county plowing. And. . . it's still snowing. projected for another four hours or more. . .we could get three to four inches more.

The price I pay for living in this wonderful area (as far as nature goes, people and restaurants qnd shopping etc. not so much).

Chilling out from all that exercise with Bobby Timmons "Sweet and Soulful Sounds" Riverside material from the German Jazz Plus release that also includes "Born to Be Blue". . .

My system is sounding so good in its current form. . . the transport to DAC connection is awesome and the ZBIT and ZROCK3 are making the SEWE300B sing. I feel so lucky.

Just got in from another bout of shoveling and am warming up my hands. There were about 3 more inches dropped since I was last out, and it's still coming down gently. Sigh. I think it's supposed to end. . . soon (?) Feels good to sit down in front of the system.

I woke up relieved to see there was no snow overnight, none since early evening. . . after receiving a total of 16" in the previoius 24 hours. We are expecting more this afternoon and evening though, so shoveling is still in my immediate future! It's cold right now, 13 degrees.

Starting the day off with Jerry Garcia "Live at the Warwick," disc 2. 1991 is not my favorite period for Jerry, but there is some great performances in this set, especially keyboard work.

Wow, this is a hot (loud) LP. I love a recording where Marty Grosz is the harmonic rhythm core, and Gorge Duvivier makes an excellent partner here.

I'm expecting a cold, cold day. 10 degrees now, high of 16 expected, and snow starting at midnight, figures as we have an early morning appointment with Lucinda's surgeon early tomorrow morning. Life in winter in NE Ohio.

I'm starting the day off with the stiff and punctuated hot dance music of Roger Wolfe Kahn on a Jazz Oracle cd.

Kahn was an interesting character. A talented multi-instrumentalist he not only fronted bands but managed other bands and built numerous swanky nightclubs. On top of these accomplishments he was also a daring aerialist. The music here featured some top talent including Joe Venuit, Jimmy Dorsey, Eddie Lang and Aartie Shaw. He had a hit with is composition "Crazy Rhythm" and also made a film starring his band performing on a yacht, and possibly piloted the plane featuring aerial stunts in the movie.

On to the amazing Ms Betty Carter. Betty was so brave and bold and determined. She was an excellent band leader and nurturer of talent, and her distinctive, innovative vocal style has really won me over these past decades.

The Roulette recordings were all live with an elastic and swinging piano trie behind her in great sound.

Betty Carter "Round Midnight--The Roulette Years, Volume 2" Roulette, European cd. Released as two separate volumes, and together in a slipcase. I wouldn't part wtih either volume; I also have three earlier US cds of this material.

Up early, tossed and turned and decided to listen. There was just a light dusting of snow overnight, but more is expected this morning, of course as we have to take a journey to the Clinic. Should be okay, I'll leave plenty of time to travel.

I know a few persons who have been looking forward to this release for about two months when it was first announced!

I have the first release of the SACD version from Japan, excellent. I also have the gold cd (Teo Macero edited) 7 disc edition from Sony Japan about 26 years ago, which also sounds very good. I'm not going for vinyl. Years ago I lusted after the Mosaic vinyl version but it became too expensive, and then with better sounding digital versions released I was satiated.

I also have the first 8 cd US version. . . but don't listen to it any longer. The SACD version (first released by Tower Records as an "exclusive" in Japan) and the gold cd Macero version sound better.

We got very good news from the surgeon, and I celebrated by putting together one of Lucinda's favorite meals, my self-created chicken broccoli casserole. We'll have that soon. . . there's been a little snow but it was easy to clean up. And now Lucinda is allowed to help me shovel.

I haven't spun any Dinah in a while and reached for this box set. I love the Roulette sound of this vintage, so warm and flowing. This is some great engineering in my opinion. And Dinah is such a consummate stylist. . . One note, one breath out into the microphone, and she establishes herself.

I haven't listened to Coleman Hawkins in a while. I pulled this excellent 4 cd set from the shelves where it has resided unplucked for too long.

The Keynote label was a wonderful one, nearly ever side recorded is of high quality and featured many musicians who deserved more exposure than they had had. Owner Harry Lim recorded the two "kings" of the tenor, Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins. Sound on this set is excellent. This final disc includes Hawkins with Charlie Shavers and a George Whettling group.

This is music I would take to any island I was stranded on, and man does this reissue sound great--also it's expanded to include alternates in mono.
