A warm, windy morning. Slept in and Memphis wanted to sleep in as well.

Started off with a box set I finally found at a decent price that I have wanted, disc 1 of 2, Clarke-Boland Big Band "Blowin' the Cobwebs Out"

I've had most of this music on LP and cd for decades, but I always wanted this compilation and am glad to have it now. Sounds great here as well. This band was truly outstanding--dynamic, vivid, chockful of great soloists and exciting arrangements. One day I'll find a decently priced copy of the other Emanonn box set of this band, "Historically Speaking". . . .

A late start this morning. My dog Memphis seemed to have hurt his left rear leg last night somehow and he wanted to sleep late snuggled next to me and I complied. He seems a bit better after a long rest.

My brother mailed this set to me yesterday after we were discussing it--a friend gave it to him and he enjoyed listening to it and knows I'm a Garcia fan so he wanted me to hear it. Disc 1. I do love hearing Jerry playing steel guitar. . . that's the CLEAR highlight.

Thanks. I don't have a lot of time to talk and won't be on the internet long. Just over 24 hours ago out of the blue our dog for six weeks Memphis attacked my wife and ripped into her forearm and broke one of her forearm bones, the ulna. I got tore up again too trying to remove his jaws, luckily just my right thumb pierced again through the nail. It was a nightmare to see the dog you’ve learned to love refuse to let loose of your wife’s right arm and to hear the bone snap.

Lucy is in the hospital recovering from an operation right now. She has demanded that Memphis not be here when she is released. I have to try to talk to the dog warden when his office opens at 10 and to the center we adopted him from. Things I don't want to do at all.

I know that you had grown close to Memphis, but a animal that bites isn't acceptable. I know that time will heal Lucy's arm, but it takes a long time to heal the trauma from such a event.
