Comes in the 7” packaging that Quadrophonic versions of Miles, Santana, Jeff Beck etc. have come in, though with less inserts than those historic reissues had.

A cool morning. Memphis the American Bully heard an owl outside for the first time. Was fun to see his reactions!

Listening to both discs of this new release from Japan, Miles Davis “Paris Jazz Festval - Salle Pleyel - 10/1/1964” 2 disc hybrid SACD set from Sony. I think this was a smart move because it is likely the material from the latest Bootleg Series release that collectors are least likely to have. And there are those who will buy it for the SACD sound, such as I!

Memphis the American Bully was mystified by a group of turkeys just over the road at the edge of the forest. He had never heard such things before! I'm starting off with Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra live at the Montreal Jazz Festival. A great listen in every way!

It rained all day yesterday. Today, beautiful temperature and no rain. Memphis the American Bully was so happy that we took a flashlight walk and enjoyed the sounds and smells. Two deer crossed in front of us and he was so good, just sat when I told him to and took it all in. This dog surprises me with his demeanor.

Got in the mail yesterday a cd that I am listening to, a sort of hard rock fusion band covering Thelonious Monk called "Brillian Coroners." A dynamic and intriguing listen.

Dom suggested The Lost Recordings in the Vinyl forum and I checked them out. Very impressive. Vinyl is out of my price range so I got a hirez download of Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto live in the Berlin Philharmonie (where the Berlin Philharmonic plays its home games) in 1966. And I'm impressed. Great sound, even if Astrud's mic is a little hot and the music is as fantastic as you would expect. If the quality of the LP pressing lives up to expectations you're going to be very happy Dom.

Very good sound, and many performances not available elsewhere.

I live on a small island with a phone cord for internet and I’ve never had a problem streaming hi-res. If I did, I always have a phone hotspot, or somewhere in a box there are a few cd’s, vinyl, turntable, and cd/dvd player. Luckily I’ve never needed any of it!

My first Lost Recording was so good I got another, Bill Evans live in Hilversum, Holland in 1968. It is live Bill Evans, so it is objectively awesome, but the recording isn't as good as Getz and Gilberto in Berlin and the music is a little less engaging (at least on first listen) than some of the recent Elemental CDs. YMMV.

I have this Evans material on a cd release from Resonance Records, "Another Time." I may like the music a bit more than you because. . . DeJohnette is one of my own drumming's big influences, I just love to hear him play with Evans.

Right now, disc 2 of the Ike Quebec "Complete 45 Sessions" released last week on Blue Note. Quebec's sound is so full and enticing, and he has both the spirit of the swing era and the modernism of Rollins--I also really appreciate the A&R work he did for Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff.

It's good. I can hear every instrument clearly. That's a great factor in my estimation. I certainly have lesser quality recordings of Evans Trios that I still enjoy (such as all those in "The Secret Evans"). . . .

This Resonance release sounds better than many. These European broadcast recordings are generally pretty darned good sounding.

One of the great Carmen McRae albums, with Ronnel Bright or Ray Bryant at the piano, and Carmen herself at the piano on four selections--something I always love to hear. Carmen's voice is so tenderly presented.

PS I have this disc due to the generosity of a jazz vocal fan I corresponded with heavily in the 'nineties and until about 2010. . . he was one of the nicest persons I felt that I knew but never met in person. Sadly he passed before I left Austin in '13.

Had trouble sleeping so I woke up and took care of a task, let Memphis outside for "business" and now am warming up with a cup of organic Mexican coffee.

It's COLD. Which felt nice.

Starting off with the new Charles Lloyd, "Figure in Blue" on Blue Note, 2 cd set, disc 1

I'm not a HUGE Lloyd fan, I liked him up til ECM, not much of a fan of his ECM work or his work with the Marvels or others on Blue Note but liked his last one and this one is also very nice. A trio with piano and guitar. I'm a big fan of Moran, and Marvin Sewell's Fender sound is really dialed in nicely.
