This was the main album we played when a good friend got the first serious Hi-Fi setup I ever heard. This was the summer of '78. That said this became a regular listening selection not long after it was released - played on a little cheapo, all-in-one stereo, or my folks furniture console.

Well I did something quite unusual for me today.

I played entire albums instead of letting my software pick individual songs for me.

I played what the class of '78 at Argenta-Oreana high school listened to back in the mid '70's.

As I noted this morning it started with BTO's "Not Fragile".

Then in keeping with the "Hard Rock" motif it was:

Aerosmith, Rocks.

I'll rate it as meh, OK I guess

Then Thin Lizzy , Jailbreak.

A little better, "The Boys Are Back In Town" and "Cowboy Song" are both still pretty good.

And finally I broke out the old warhorse, "Frampton Comes Alive"

It is funny, this album mostly brings back memories, like going camping with my buddies and goofing off on the creek that ran behind our farm.

The music holds up, but mostly it is now just the memories of the time.

It is hard to believe that it has been 50 years now.
As Joe Walsh said back then "Life's been good".
Well that will be another album I need to listen to now.....

I only listened to it once and then checked out the bonus tracks on Tidal. Honestly, the stand out to me is Luck and Strange (original Barn Jam), which is not even on the record!

Haha, yes! Same here, the barn jam came on as the last track of the album and I was like, “hey, finally, this is good.”

If you didn’t catch the new Yannis & the Yaw album that came out last week it was probably the most notable release as of late. Also the new John Spencer is a delight this week. I saw him at the Square Roots festival in Chicago last month and it was a great performance.

This album has fascinated me a few decades. This High Definition Tape Transfer cdr is the best sounding version I have heard.

Powell is just weaving stories to me on this one. And with Michelin and Clarke supporting him he can just go where he pleases.

The Monk numbers make me feel as if he is really playing these to a friend. . . far away.

Fall is here, but it's still a bit warm. Fiona and I had a little walk. . . walking a deaf and blilnd dog is a bit of a challenge, but rewarding when she returns and settles into a happy nap and I get to listen to the warmed up stereo.
