Bottom line: it is not at all odd to say "DSD mastering." It's a little more complicated than that as far as the editing, but even so the DSD end product is very good, but mastering and downsampling to a PCM format is very possible and often used. . . . And in these cases little "editing" is necessary--they just master from existing material generally I believe without editing. Sony has been using DSD to master cd and SACD for a long time; these 2000 were among the first major catalog upgrades using DSD.

Personally I find these DSD masterings to sound better than 24/96 PCM also used at the time. And I collect a lot of SACD, which I think sounds really really good.

My old dog wakes me up early, and I often don't bother trying to go back to sleep after taking care of her needs.

Lately I just want to listen to music. The system sounds so good. I don't want to write about how great it sounds. . . I end up sounding "hype"-esque which I have been trying so hard not to sound like for years. But man, the system never sounded better. And I keep playing disc after disc, cd or vinyl.

Miles Davis "Water Babies" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 Japan 2023

Music that has been with me since 1976. I keep finding bits to discover and enjoy in these selections. One bonus cut on this disc, indicating it is a reissue of the US cd release mastering.

I love this Corky McCoy cover. When I was a kid in Philadelphia one of our neighborhood Dads would open up the fire hydrant every few weeks in the summer and we would frolic in the street until the City would come and turn it off. Sometimes I was the kid in clothes watching the fun unhappily as I was not allowed to participate. . . depended which parent was home. Wink

Miles Davis "Milestones" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 two cd set (stereo disc and mono disc).

I'm listening to the stereo, first time in a long time (generally chose mono before, which I had in better editions). Sound is very nice! I love these performances; this is an often overlooked Miles masterpiece.

And. . . "The Man in the Green Shirt" as the song title from Weather Report goes.

I think this is the last album recorded by RRK before his stroke. It's a fascinating album with his brilliant mix of technical supremacy, black music history, and his verve and humor.

I haven't played this since before recent major changes to the system and have to say. . .it shows how wonderful the main system has become. Stunning sound.

Giving this a first listen from the new batch of free albums I got on the promo deal. Surprisingly the quality is pretty good. It’s clean with minimal pops or clicks.

So much to discover every time listening to this music. Sonny and Monk seeming to understand the music and its spirit so well together, simultaneously.

The sound on these Concord Rudy Van Gelder Remasters I find very good, especially the mono recordings.
