DIY wood base
12/23/25 at 20:14:40

Has anybody built a wood base for their Decware gear?  I am mulling building victorian bases for my UFO2s.  Any tips/experience/plans would be welcome.  Thanks.

Not sure how helpful I can be but I've been shopping for nice hardwoods myself for a custom base build. I have plenty of past experience with woodworking but always had access to professional equipment and not so much today.

So with the high price of solid hardwoods I know I have to replace all of my blades and bits and maybe even upgrade my 1950's band saw. Im not going to rush into it and waist costly materials. It's easy to chip hardwoods if not careful.

One could "cheat" and just use veneers and molding accents but that's not my angle on this project.

Good luck and take your time.

If it were me, I would buy the hardwood that provided for the outside profile, glue some plywood (3/8ths) on the inside slightly undersized for the top and bottom plate.  Profile the sides the way you want.  Most of the OE models looks like they could be accomplished on a table saw.  sand.  Miter saw the pieces.  Form your box with some corner clamps or band clamp or both, glueing and tacking the corners.  Use wood filler, finish sand.  Finish.  glue and tack in an MDF bottom (its just there to keep fingers out, it doesn't support any weight).  utilize your amp to mark your screw holes.  Pilot drill the screw holes.  Attack top plate.

Marvel at your handiwork.  Call your spouse over to marvel at your handiwork.
