...so, there I was, walking into the Decware shop once again. Again again. Actually it was the third time today. So... again, again, again? I don't know... I had almost fallen asleep on the couch on my quick trip home after work, but I pulled it together, made a half sandwich and cruised down to the shop for listening night.
There has been a little less music in the air lately. Steve has been taking care of some maintenance in the main listening room for a bit now, so we have primarily used the office system with the Tiny Radials during the day to fill our airspace. It's a reminder of the reason we do this everyday, letting the music play. It's pleasant ,AND it will still turn your head occasionally, even at a low volume. Don't be skeptical of the Tiny Radials, for sure. There has been quite the shuffle around the shop as summer kicked into high gear. Employees have left, new employees have started... A little change in the daily grind is good from time to time. However, it takes a lot of hard hard to pull so many systems together -in unison- through transitional phases like this. The team is killing it, like always. The shipping department has been absolutely ripping it up. After a few challenging situations leading to a small back up, they are all but entirely caught up at this point. About a month ago our Quality Control tech, Ben, left to graze greener pastures up Iowa way. This left a surprise opening in a very necessary position. I was honored that Steve and Devon asked if I would be willing to transfer into the role. I accepted and immediately switched positions to train with Ben for a week before he left. That was the beginning of the month. I can say that I at least can see the end of the tunnel in QC, and should be caught up shortly, if anyone was looking for an update on that.
This is all to say that I was pretty tired today. We have had nonstop high humidity high temps for a bit s well. It wears on you, just like the cold. Anyway...
As I stepped through the first outer door and into the small area for packages I immediately heard the soothing, dulcet tones of the main listening room emanating from behind the inner door. I was very exited and rushed into the shop, almost running into Steve directly. We danced the Decware Hall Waltz and I made my way into the listening room. Our friends Sam and Tim were already in the room, and after a quick greeting I took a seat and started listening.
What ensued was one of the top 5, no, 3, listening experiences I have had at the shop over the last three years. Absolutely Engaging! The nuance had nuance that took my breath away at several moments. I believe also my left eye watered a bit from staring at the perfectly real nonexistent musicians in the room. It was a perfect paradoxical listening nite.
The system this evening consisted of the Cambridge CXN100 (I may have the model misstated, but I am pretty sure) feeding the ZTPre, to a Torii Jr over what I believe to be Steve's first speaker? I apologize, but I will have to come back with that info, its so late... I'm so tired...
Anyway... so, in the room these speakers were able to absolutely own everything that was thrown at them. At one point, as I was enjoying one of those parts were the nuance had nuance the song change abruptly. It had been changed for a request from one of the new employees. It was his own band. A Hardcore Metal band. The abrupt change barely registered as the kids song was well produced and just there now, in all of its hardcore-y-ness, It was barely jarring and the system did not miss a beat! it never does. Ever. THERE! I said it! I generally stay away from definitive statements, they are easy to prove incorrect. 'I ALWAYS...', '...theBEST! EVER!" I bet there is at least one more that is better... just saying... I stand behind it though. After three years I have never heard a Decware amp stumble or smear. Not once, unless it is in the recording.
I heard low end reproduction so crazy fast, subtle, detailed, and SO SO EASY... no struggle at all. Same thing all the way through the drippiest, sexiest midrange you may have ever heard... Every track, every genre, every time. It was so good!
I will update the name of the speakers and be able to chat about later. so tired... gotta go...
Hifi dreams to all, and to all a good nite.
