Loose Tube Base
04/19/24 at 19:29:24

Have a couple of tubes that seem to have loose bases that I’d like to glue back together. Are there any tried/tested products for glue to use?

Emission Labs seems to make tube base glue but I need to find a dealer that will sell it. Was curious if the brain trust here used anything else. A couple of the tubes are rectifiers so they do get hot.

Thanks!

I use a thin bead of superglue and remove any excess after it dries and turns white with a utility blade.  Holds up well and have not had any issues.

Believe it or not, I’ve had success with an antiseptic liquid bandage product called “New Skin”. It has an alcohol carrier so sufficient drying time must be allowed.  I’ved in the past remember using this “glue” on a random octal, applied with a toothpick & scraping the excess off when dry. But a little over a year ago I received an amp that had 3 0A3 vr tubes, one of which had a loose base. So I ordered up a couple of Sylvanias & a RCA. Well the RCA & one of the Sylvania tubes had the same problem. After verifying all 6 of these 0A3 tubes sounded fine I glued up the 3 that were loose. So one of these glued up tubes has been heat cycled nearly every day since March ‘23. New Skin contains pyroxylin, I’m sure the products listed previously work better, but had this in the medicine cabinet & had success, it smells like cloves for a while though.

Thank you all for your responses. I ended up buying Weldbond from Amazon (thank you Lon for the link to the old discussion). Will let you all know how it turns out….
