Room Size

What are your opinions on room size, i.e. ratio of sides to ends and ceiling height? I’m thinking of halving my shop and building a nice listening environment inside the quonset hut…maybe 18x14x9…and give enough space to try some dipole designs.

Those dimensions are not too bad. You can get fantastic sound from a room with those dimensions.

https://amcoustics.com/tools/amroc?l=18&w=14&h=9&so=false&ft=true&r60=0....

9 foot ceilings is a great help in getting a better room response. Modes per third has a nice smooth increase.

List of room modes under 100hz. Excluding oblique.

1      31.26 Hz      B0      1-0-0      ax
2      40.19 Hz      E1      0-1-0      ax
3      50.92 Hz      G1#      1-1-0      tan
4      62.52 Hz      B1      0-0-1      ax
5      62.52 Hz      B1      2-0-0      ax
6      69.9 Hz      C2#      1-0-1      tan
7      74.32 Hz      D2      0-1-1      tan
8      74.32 Hz      D2      2-1-0      tan
9      80.38 Hz      E2      0-2-0      ax
11      86.24 Hz      F2      1-2-0      tan
12      88.41 Hz      F2      2-0-1      tan
13      93.78 Hz      F2#      3-0-0      ax
15      101.83 Hz      G2#      0-2-1      tan

I like the 9 foot height. The problem I see is that the length of 18 is a multiple of the 9 foot height. If you could go higher that would be good. So shorten or lengthen the room if you can go higher.
Having a dimensions that are divisible into another will make the modes harder to tame. My room is 19 x 14 x 8 and it does sound good (lots of treatment).
