ZROCK and tape loop monitor

Hi all

Did anyone try to connect the ZROCK to the tape loop monitor of a Preamp?

probably I'm doing something wrong, or maybe this is normal. I connected my ZROCK to the Send/return tape monitor of my preamp. As I turn the knob closer to the max it starts distorting / clipping.
Is it that the voltage output of the ZROCK that is too high?
