ZSB Volume levels with Two Outputs
06/21/23 at 21:24:57

Never had a switcher with multiple outputs. I recently received my ZSB and noticing a fairly significant volume drop when plugging the second output into a second amplifier. Is this to be expected? Doesn't seem to be a fidelity loss but was not expecting this. Will the type of amplifier the second output is fed to have an impact on this?

I have a ZSB and have zero loss on my second set of outputs…. And that’s going to my powered subwoofer.

Question…. Did you buy this brand new or acquire it from second hand.

Does the same thing happen when you swap the location of the component to the other side?  Also..make sure that whatever switch position you are in, that it’s positively locked into that position.

If you still have an issue… and you are a bit tech savvy…maybe open it up and take a look inside.  If all else fails I would give Steve a call.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Dominick.

Original owner. The input seems to be locked in on the switch.

The scenario plays out like this... I have output one running to my main integrated amplifier. I connect a second set of RCA cables to the second output of the ZSB. Nothing changes until I connect to the amplifier i use for outside speakers. Then the volume on the main amplifier drops a bit. As I turn up the volume of the secondary amplifier the main amplifier then loses volume as the secondary amplifier is turned up. The initial volume loss happens without the secondary amplifier turned on.

Ok.  Gotcha.  Out of curiosity…are both amplifiers and speakers rated for the same impedance? Maybe the mismatch is causing an issue?  In theory it shouldn’t matter….but honestly I’m not sure.  I’ll let someone else who knows more weigh in.

Yeah, I think Dom is on the right track. What is your source? And how long are the cables to your second amp? It sounds like your source doesn’t have enough juice to drive both amps at the same time, at least not without the output sagging noticeably.
