Can't speak for ZP3, but my ZP1 is absolutely quiet. No hum at all. I can't believe Steve would upgrade to the next model, ZP3, and somehow introduce hum that hadn't been there in first model. If you read the white papers on ZP1 and ZP3, he makes it clear he threw out lots of designs precisely because of hum. Clearly, he was careful to design a phono stage that does not introduce hum.
Even the best phono pre will amplify hum it is fed, however. Could it be that you're using a cartridge prone to hum (like Grado) and that the ZP3 has more gain than your previous phono stage, so now you're noticing it? Or that your ZP3 is plugged into power strip/ ground loop is occurring?
