Things are coming together nicely for me, somewhat slowly.
It's spring in Indiana; lots of gardening to attend.
Kind of disenamored with how the W15s sound. Gave up on them last week.
Prefer my home made JBLs, but even better in some ways are the vintage Jamo drivers in the low spot. They have the lowest Fs, deepest bass by a fair margin, but I believe the cone control is quite a bit better with the JBLs.
Best by far though are the very old, ridden sweaty and put up wet, Old used Dayton IB drivers I traded my Chevelle carb to get.
Troubling me is memory of just how horrid my F15s sounded when I first got them. Then after beating them like rented mules for a month, they began to sound really good.
I've lost track of how many miles I've put on the W15s!
Wondering if those could use a month in the make it or break it lane.
Deepest are the Jamo, but most controlled and accurate are the High Qts JBLs I built, 25 yrs ago.
Better matching and smoother upper roll off, mating with the F15s are the sweaty old Daytons.
Those claim the low spot for now.
This week end has been distracting. First time back to the track for me just for the race, since covid.
Took my son last year for the all day races, but I was most worried about how he was doing. He hates loud. Indy cars are very loud!!!
We had our ear plugs and hard cans I use for the range, but he kept on wanting to take them off. Had to watch him! But Damnit! Don't do what I've done or you'll end up like me, Damnit!
Of course, this year, my 17th Indy 500, I've learned not to go without a full body pancho, blanket and one of my Lama branded Texas cowboy hats. Yep, I go as a tourist! Screw it, I know what I'm doing.
I got wet, but not under the pancho or the hat. Not sure when my boots will dry.
Daytons have only had three days in the baffles before the race and all the storms.
I have actually set my Zens aside to power these baffles up to a MUCH higher level, with just the McIntosh and a Crown. Switched them. Crown for lows and McIntosh for the upper. Old McIntosh is a very sweet sounding amp!
Shorting the lowers, that McIntosh really sounds nice with just the F15s rocking with about 25W going in. The windows give up first. Floor is tile on concrete, pretty stout.
But, I've never heard those Liis do this!
They WILL impact!
Being a tired old half deaf sound guy, if two sound this good, what would eight sound like? Twenty four!
Wife's vacation has begun, so no more standing listening, loud for now.
MAC showing less than 1/4W, meters barely moving, they sound great.
Wife tolerates that.
Next week, I'll get back to being serious and deciding what's the right combo.
I've had fun loading the whole house with the F15s performing hard.
BUT, this is her week. Pampering her is the name of my latest game.
Made us all tacos tonight! Got the youngs to help out. Great night!
I can't sleep because the dog is trying to protect us from the random lightning, even though I've already done that for us.
Never had such a tiny, aggressive, protective dog, all 8lbs worth of Chuck Norris beastie.
