25th Anniversary power handling

Hi folks,

I am contemplating building an Open Baffle for Lii's Crystal-10 and the W-15. Does anyone know if the SE84UFO25 produces enough power to drive the W-15?
The specs on the W-15 read as the following:
Technical Data:
1. Related power – Maximum power 100 – 150W
2. Nominal inpedance Z 8+8 Ohm
3. Frequency response fu-5000 Hz
4. Mean sound pressure level 91dB(2.83V/1m)
5. Resonance frequency fs 28 H

I do plan on having an XO built as well.

Hi Alex. A good way to handle this is to have a separate subwoofer amp to drive the W-15’s. For example, I have Crystals in their own baffles, with 12” woofers in their own baffles, as well as a powered sub.

The Crystals, subwoofer amp, and the powered sub are all three connected to the amplifier speaker terminals. Then the speaker connections on the subwoofer amp are connected to the W-15’s.

The sub amp has crossover and volume controls. For example, mine is crossed at 80hz. This way, frequency’s are split between the Crystals and the W-15’s.

That’s what I had before. Pretty inexpensive. I’ve followed Lionidas pretty closely on the Lii Website. Pretty cool stuff. I’m not sure what he’s using for power, and how he has that power distributed.

So you do not have a crossover on the Crystal, just the woofer? I thought the way it would work would be the XO would channel the highs and mids to the Crystal 10 while the low signal would be channeled to the woofer. It seems like your setup only has the XO on the woofer. Does this mean some of the bass is also going to the Crystal 10?

Alex, Looks like we are working in the same direction.

I currently have 2 C10. I'm looking to get 4x W15 and make a XO. I'm planning on crossing them over quite high. 500-1000hz. Hard to say until I can play with the W15. In this case I would use a XO for both the C10 and W15s

I'm a complete newbie on DIY speakers, so this is might be more of a learning experience for me than useful or accurate information.

Geno offers a very practical solution, which I'm guessing delivers great results.

If you go with the plate amp option IF the C10 naturally rolls off at let's say 150hz you can then use the XO and gain on the plate amp to match the frequency and levels so you have a very smooth frequency response. In this case you wouldn't need a XO on the C10 at all which might be the ticket you are looking for.
