I'm considering a cartridge upgrade and looking at replacing my Ortofon 2M black with a Kiseki PurpleHeart N.S. I'm using a ZP3, love it, and plan to use it forever if I can. The Purple Heart has an output of 0.48mV but I think I'm covered in the gain territory with a zstage and and ztpre. Please let me know if I'm not.
I don't know a whole lot about step up transformers and loading and what the trade offs are with different load settings as I've never had a phono stage that offers such adjustments. I see that Kiseki recommends 400 ohms. How would I go about that with the ZP3? Or does it even matter and the 47k will sound great?
Specs provided by Kiseki for the Purple Heart are:
Output voltage: 0.48mV Internal impedance: 42 ohms Frequency response: 20 – 30,000Hz ± 1dB Channel balance: 0.2dB Channel Separation: 35dB at 1kHz Tracking ability at 315Hz at a tracking force of 2.6 grams: 80 μm Dynamic Compliance: 16 μm/mN Recommended loading: 400 ohms (Bob Levi: I disagree! 800-1000 ohms) Recommend tracking force: 2.0 – 2.6 grams (Bob Levi: I disagree! 2.1-2.4)
Any help would be appreciated. These specs maybe very similar to other cartridges, so if you are using something else like it and with a ZP3, I'd love your advice as well.
